Some Hidden Gems Of Art of Astonishment

Postby Michael Kras » Jul 25th, '07, 18:18

Here are some great, forgotten Paul Harris effects from the Art of Astonishment series that are worth checking out:

Million Dollar Mindreader- Menatlism doesn't get much more personal or powerful.

Cellophane Surprise- The ultimate, ingenious Broken and Restored Cellophane wrapper that is amazingly clever.

Within Your Reach- a body sight gag.

The Shape Of Astonishment- The coin and tinfoil impossibility where a tinfoil imprint impossibly changes.

Leap Of Faith- A fantastic version of the killer Las Vegas Leap effect.

Think Of A Card- An amazing thought-of card effect.

Hi There Babycakes- A great way to get a girl's phone number.

Paperclip Paradox- All I can say is TRY THIS OUT.

Those are some of the Art of Astonishment Hidden Gems. Does anyone want to add any more to the list?

what makes you think there hidden , or forgotten >>??

You mean you havent used them up to now!! Thats what happens with magic. You choose what suits you now. Then you go back and change your mind, or your arsenal at a later date.

If it's the variation by Ray Kosby that you mean, it's great, damn tricky though, i've still not got it as smooth as it needs to be.

Maybe so. But comments like that do NOT help.

I wasnt shutting him down Kjeux. I was referring to how people approach magic in general, especially a volume collection like AOI

What isnt for you now, may be later down the line.

Mike, you know by now.. ignore comments like the above.

Thank you, but I think I deserve it. I am a terrible person... I am sorry, I am feeling upset right now, I don't like to be known like this.

but sometimes you bring it on yourself mate.

I have pm'd you NUMEROUS times on the matter.

No one dislikes you, its pointless feeling sorry for yourself over people you dont know and are never likely to meet ( except me as Ill be famous  ).

And pushing yourself upong people who have told you in no uncertain terms that you're not ready for fame yet, it grates on people.

Be here for the same reasons we all are, to share and contribute to a community of people who share the same love in life. And you do that at times..

Unfortunately sometimes you seem to just want to advertise yourself, and quite frankly, no one can be bothered with that side of you for the time being.

How many people have said you're likebale, even in an annoying type of way> They are sending you a subtle message.. lay off the ' all about me ' attitude and we can enjoy the part of Michael Kras that we all do * dont even think about innuendo bingo'ing that *

Just be you.. but not the advertsing, all about you.. you, if that makes sense.

This is starting to annoy me now, it seems these days a lot of threads about MAGIC are started then quickly go off topic and start rambling on about the same old nonsense.

Mike started this thread simply to point out a couple of good bits in the overwhelming trilogy that is Art of Astonishment. I welcome that, and checked them out last night.

If you have nothing to add reguarding these effects, don't post in this thread.

Simple.

Agreed.

Topics that are started off about magic should be kept as such.

In discussions there are often difference of opinion, for some reason though people think that when someone disagrees with someone like Michael its starting a bashing thread. Thats not the case.

For example, I disagreed with the comment Mike made about effects being forgotton. But Kjeux interpreted that as shutting Mike down :?

As said in the above post, Mike did a 'normal thing' by starting a topic off about a great volume and the direction this thread should be going in is perhaps people opinions of their most used effects, or the effects that are growing on them.

And there is no need to be upset Mike, dont take things to heart so seriously.

Anyway.. to get the topic back to where is should be, I personally havent ventured into AOI that much.

I only really know unshuffling Rebecca, improv nightshades and a couple of other gems that he released on video AOI.

I should really dig out my AOI books and have a gander, they are just collecting dust at the moment..

Surely that's a sin right?? :?

Do ye still have the paper cigarette boxes in the US by the way? I don't think this is quite as effective with the hard card ones we get in Ireland and the UK. That being said, it's probably only really a matter of keeping a little bit of torn card in FP and 'biting' it off the box.

Well, I am 14, so I perform it with boxes of Certs mint drops... they are the perfect size and shape and they have cellophane on them!

Anyone here perform Flashfold? Has anyone ever tried McGimmick? Any effects you use regularly?

Mcgimmick....I sorely want to try that one and nearly have a few times, but for some reason always bottle it whenever I have just bought the neccessary.

Did you ever try out Gambler vs mentalist versus magician? A nice twist on an old effect and really quite easy to pull off.

not a fan of sigs, so I won't bother adding o..... oh
