Turning a card or pack

Postby Dave 3 » Aug 2nd, '07, 14:55

Hi could anybody please help. I have quite a few card tricks that need the cards or pack to be turned to do the trick but this often gives the trick away.Is there any way to do this that would not be obvious.Appreciate any help or ideas. Thanks Dave. :)

To be honest Dave, you stand more chance of helpful replies if you nip over to Introductions first and tell us a bit about yourself. We could advise all sorts of things which are wrong for you otherwise.

There are a variety of different reversals in Expert Card Technique, and probably Royal Road to Card Magic as well. You could also half-pass them.

Maybe try being a bit more specific.

There are a couple of ideas in Royal Road, best thing though is to make sure you're holding the deck naturally, holding it as you would for the glide works well. Just act natural, chat to the spec keeping eye contact when you make the turn and you can't really go wrong.

Do you mean keep them face down and turn them clockwise/anticlockwise? Like a stripper deck.
Or do you mean turn them face to back/back to face?
And do you want to turn all the cards in your hand, or just some of them.

Misdirection is probably your friend in this case.

Thanks for all the advice. basically i have purchased a couple of tricks which involve just three cards and the tricks involve having to turn them back to back to do the trick. Its at this point that some people guess how its done.Ive tried distraction but being close up magic they just stare at the cards. :?

Dave,

Distraction and/or misdirection come with a lot of pracrice working with people and not something easy to explain, nor something you can practice in front of a mirror. Its something you learn by performing in the main.

A lot of us know different ways of turning cards and for different effects. It would help to know the effect, most here will know it anyway !! Give us a better clue and we may be able to help.

It's ok Dave, you can mention the name of the trick without giving anything away. This'll help, the trick may have a specific g*****k of some kind you see and it could be any one of a number of tricks. But as Lady of Mystery and Kitaristi say, the Royal Road and Expert Card Technique have several reverses. ECT has a handy one for a full deck. I think it's under "Sundry Sleights" but I'll check when I get home.

Mind you, if you're a beginner then stick with the Royal Road. Do you have a copy?

Or possibly a DL if there are only 3 cards.

Without knowing a bit more its hard to offer the best solution.
