Mallusionist

Postby The Deceiver » Aug 28th, '07, 16:58

Here's a site that no-one should visit. Mallusionist. it's completely useless. it's bad enough that it exposes magic tricks but it doesn't even give you the correct explanation. ambitious card routine apparently uses a one way deck (which they didn't even know it was called that). Magicians use trained poisonous spiders to vanish objects. it's ridiculous. wether this is just a stupid joke or not. it's still stupid.

Its a p**s take.
For example cold reading is apparently:
a magician who apparently demonstrates the ability to detect colds (and other medical conditions) in a person they have never met before.

it's bad enough that it exposes magic tricks but it doesn't even give you the correct explanation.

That sentence seems to be self contradictory.

I'm pretty sure that the website is a joke to try and throw off people looking for explanations of card tricks. Because I seriously doubt that the create actually believes what he/she wrote.

It's one of my favourite sites, the explanations are wonderful. The funny thing is they'll put the odd bit of truth in there but any layman with any sense realises in seconds that it's a joke site and therefore discounts anything they read. Clever.

So you're telling me I've just wasted all this money on import tax and a livestock licence for these poisonous spiders for nothing?

Hah. well i believe this site has been mentioned before. You know, I've always had a knack for cold reading...

Any way, I think any magician with a sense of humor can deduce that it's actually just a very amusing joke (though, not for laymen who go off sulking when they realize that spiders cant be trained). But how did you come across this site, if not through TM. Googling "magic exposure", were we  ?

I smell a law suit...

All it takes is 1 dumb australlian teenager to see the info about the spiders, go out into the bush and try to make something vanish end up killing himself lol.

Its possible

I dont think the best solution to exposure problem is fake sites, i think you should create a site which is well great inspirational website about the history of magic and the magicians code and a guide for anybody really serious about getting into magic.

Get a great design, and you got a great site lol

Re-read your sentence....
if its giving false explanations... think about it... how can it be exposing magic.

I love this site.. the highlight of every day...

I love some of the explanations!! I think EVERY new person interested in Magic should be referred here.

If they 'get it' and come back then they can be referred to the real sources..

After all.. A magician needs a sense of humour!!

Has anyone actually tried this.. for jokes?!

The pass

Hold the cards in the left hand in "mechanics" (or "really, really tight") grip.
Ask the spectator to insert the chosen card into the deck and push it all the way in.
Watch carefully as the spectator inserts the card and count how many cards are below the spectator's card.
With the left pinky, count up through the deck until the position of the spectator's card is found and insert a fingernail below this position.
With the right hand, cover the top of the deck as if preparing to cut off a bunch of cards.
With the right pointer finger, count down through the deck until the position of the spectator's card is found and insert a fingernail above this position.
With the right ring finger, count down through the deck and insert a fingernail above the spectator's card.
With the left middle finger, count up through the deck and insert a fingernail below the spectator's card. You're now ready to execute a basic pass.
The left pinky and middle finger push the portion of the deck below the spectator's card into the soft flesh at the base of the left thumb and, using that point as a fulcrum, pivot the lower stack of cards down.
The right pointer and ring fingers push the portion of the deck above the spectator's card into the base of the left pointer finger and, using that point as an axel, rotate the top half of the deck until it is half way over the back of the left hand.
Simultaneously, the left pointer finger and right middle fingers sandwich the selected card. If the magician desires the selected card to be turned over, now is the time to do it by switching the fingers' positions.
The left pointer and right middle fingers move the selected card out of the way and perpendicular to the deck.
If the card is to be moved higher in the deck, the top portion of the deck is moved above the lower portion and the requisite number of cards released to fall upon the lower portion.
If the card is to be moved higher in the deck, the previous procedure is followed with the hands inverted.
The selected card is placed back between the two halves of the deck and all fingers release to let the deck reform in the left palm.
The selected card is now at the desired position in the deck and, if the move was performed with speed and dexterity, spectators will not even know anything happened
