Strange Travellers advice

Postby moodini » Aug 30th, '07, 04:55

Did a search and didn't come up with anything suitable....am I the only one that doesn't seem to have much luck with the search function - blaming my lack of skill not the forum - and never seem to come up with what I need....

My question is this....when doing strange travellers, has anyone had a problem with a second spec chiming in about a card they too were thinking about? Trying not to say too much here, if you have it you will likely know what I mean.....if so how do you get around it so it doesn't happen, I think it may present a problem for me at a restaurant table, etc...others are likely to follow along subconsciously and may snag onto something.....any ideas? PM if you need more clarification or if the anser is not something for open forum discussion...I read through it and don't see anything on the subject.

Hello,

Moodini - I have read in other threads, not sure if they were here, that if a second spec happens to chime in and say that their card is missing also, then you can go right into an ID effect and reveal their card that way. Taking heat off of your first effect.

I am sure more knowledgable members will speak up also, but I thought I would throw that out there.

Take care

This has been discussed before but I can't find it offhand either.

One suggestion could be to get the spectator you ask to think of a card to whisper their choice to the others. That might ensure that everyone is concentrating on that card to the exclusion of any other.

Alternatively, you could explicitly state that you need ONLY that one spectator to think of a card for this to work... if other people think of cards it will confuse the 'mental magic' you are trying to perform, something like that?

Thanks guys....I was wondering about patter ideas to cover this fact up - like you said about having them converse about their choice or emphasize that only one person is allowed to think - the second option to me seems as though it may draw more attention to the other cards from others....I thought about having one person pick a card, write it down and pass it around to the others...this would occupy the others as they will be awaiting the note to make its way around....but any other ideas will still be appreciated.

The main Strange Travellers thread (pages and pages of it!) can be found here: http://www.talkmagic.co.uk/ftopic11029-0-0-asc-.php

I'm pretty sure there's quite a bit of discussion on the multiple spec topic in that thread...though, in all fairness, I've never had any such issues myself, so long as I get the main spec to clue the others in to the name of his card, either by writing it down (if this is the case, have one spec hold the pad and another spec hold the pen, whilst the main man selects his card; whilst he's choosing, you can ask them to examine the pad/pen, to ensure that they're normal, thus focussing their attention away during the card selection process), or whispering it to them.

Hope this helps! :D

As Rob says there is this thread and it does have some useful stuff in it. I also have never had the problem crop up but have read before the ID get out and always do Travellers before any ID effect so that I have it there "in case"

ive only had this about a week and Ive only had one 'duplicate selection' occur.

The second spectator said '' I made a selection too!! How did you get his card to travel across completely, and make my card switch with another.. thats impossible ''

I let my specs create their own conclusion.. and in this case it wasnt a bad one either
