sorry mark but you probably wouldn't want to help me anyway

I'm one of those 'silly young people' that perform 'so called street magic' to complete strangers[/quote]

Jammy, my boy. I am delighted that you admit that you are a silly young person. Confession is good for the soul so there is perhaps hope for you yet. Once you get out of the habit of accosting innocent strangers in the street and thus making Brad Christian even richer than he is now, you will make progress in magic. I used to do what you do but I never approached people which is an intrusion. I used to make them approach me which puts you in a stronger position. And once you show a little more respect to your elders I may inform you how to do it.

As for the classic force perhaps you had better read the Royal Road to Card Magic again which has the best description. Once you have exerted yourself to do that and done so thoroughly please report back and I may perhaps deign to inform you further providing you grovel in an appropriate manner. I have noted that you say you have already looked at this book but it is perfectly obvious that you didn't study it properly. You really must try harder if you wish to progress. And DVDs are not necessarily the way to do so. You young people must learn to read instead of watching DVDs which are terribly limited and tend to make you copy the performer who is the subject of the recording.

Although Mark makes a valid point about reading vs video (eventually), this is one of those times when it is easier to teach, and learn with a visual aspect to the lesson. Although many details can be described in print, and Glub knows many people have learned from Royal Road, the proper timing and blocking is much more easily understood when it is demonstrated.

The absolute best way to learn the force is through personal instruction.

mark,

The main reason my response to you may seem a bit off is because i've heard all of this before, from YOU on another forum, only last time it was David Blaine you were bashing rather than Brad Christian (who I have never purchased anything from).

Yes, I do stop strangers in the street, yes sometimes they are not interested and if that is the case I will leave them alone. There are many people that are intrigued by what I have to offer and 9 times out of 10 enjoy the trick / routine / performance.

I have people trying to stop me and bother me all day in town, whether they be a preacher, greenpeace rep, red cross whatever, if these all turned into street performers I wouldn't mind, I certainly wouldn't mind if a young chap approached me asking if I would like to see some magic.

I like the thought of approaching a complete stranger, breaking the ice, impressing them with my talents and usually completely changing their day, (or at least leave them with something unusual to remember) most of them wouldn't think of it as 'intrusion', I don't think of it like that and I personally gain a lot of experience and confidence in doing this.

'And once you show a little more respect to your elders I may inform you how to do it.'

it's okay you posted most of your memoirs on genii anyway (wasn't much help to be honest)

Amen

this why I asked about the DVD because it is visual and the next best thing to being shown one on one

unfortunately the person that showed me for the first time is no longer with us

I see that the jamchild hasn't put a lid on his jamjar. And I have never said a bad word about David Blaine. In fact I think reasonably highly of him. At least he doesn't talk too much and scream and shout like a lot of American magicians do. Furthermore I would never dream of bashing Brad Christian since he is an old friend of mine. As for approaching and annoying people in the street I am sure you will grow out of such silliness one day.

Mark

Although I disagree with some of them, I do appreciate your thoughts and hope you can take what I would call a bit of 'banter' with a pinch of salt as I have done so with you.

For your info, the amount of magic (tutorial) DVD's I own could be counted with the amount of DVD players you have set up (assuming that is none). I am always willing to read quality books / material from the likes of Hugard, Braue, Dai, Tamariz, Elmsley, Lorayne etc, but as has been said before there is only so much you can read into the method of the classic force, I suppose (as Ian pointed out) being shown one on one is the best way to learn and practising as much as possible is the only way your going to improve your chances.

As for approaching and AMAZING people in the street, we may have to agree to disagree and save that debate for another day.
