We all know that cups and balls go back to egypt and beyond, but does anyone (Craig?) know when the first records of card magic start...

I think the first instance of playing cards was in the 8th or 9th century in China. Do we think that card magic followed soon after?

Certainly sleight of hand was around at this time (jesus had all those fishes & loaves up his sleeves much earlier) but when was it applied to cards.

Do we think it starts with cheating at card games and then evolves?

Isn't all magic cheating anyway? In it's own way, it is just fooling people or doing something other than what people think you're doing most of the tme isn't it? well, mine is! so i guess i cheat.

Cups and balls in egypt is a myth. It's been proven that the drawing was not of cups and balls.
Also, Jesus didn't exist either. He's just a metaphor for the Sun.
No idea about the cards though.
