On the subject of Radio 2, it's the most diverse station on the airwaves which is surely a good thing.
Way back in the 70's you would heard all kind of music on the radio, pop, rock, soul, MOR, country, easy listening... and although you may not like all of it, at least you were aware of it all and had the choice.
There were songs from some genres which I wans't keen on that I really liked and wouldn't have heard if I listened to a station that just played one type of music. It made you more open minded to different styles.
These days people like a generic type of music and listeners of XFM, Kiss, etc have a very shut-off and narrow minded view of what they like.
I wouldn't class myself as just liking one particular style of music only as I have heard so many different things, I have found good in all of it.
Where else can you hear Alan Titchmarsh playing classical music, Elaine Page playing showtunes, Bob Harris playing country, Jonathon Ross trying to look youthful and trendy and Terry Wogan charming your ears with plenty of ELO and Supertramp?
