Brilliant advice.
Here's a horror story, happened last week...
My bestist (certainly oldest—in many ways) buddy just bought a Toshiba, 40 inch LCD, 1080p HD totally dog's danglies.
Cost him just a shade below £2000. Which to me, for a TV, is ludicrous!
Anyway, although this is a very high-spec model, he's taking it back to the shop next week, as he too feels it was mis-sold. Pics from his DVD player look pixellated, and I saw first-hand yesterday that when playing or watching video with black in it, there's a lot of artefacts.
This is exactly what is being said here: buying a HD television with all the trimmings is going to look no better than a standard TV if you're just only putting SD (as opposed to HD) content into it.
Currently, Sky offers very few HD channels. HD DVD players/media are creeping into the mainstream, but it's really quite a let-down.
I am still toying with a projector, esp. after hearing YPud's good reports!
