Small final load for a cup and ball routine?

Struggling with an effect? Any tips (without giving too much away!) you'd like to share?

I could sell it with a fake turd and cat puppet and call the effect the Naughty Kitty Cup. I'm sure one of the less reputable dealers will now take the idea off me and sell it for £60.

Saw a good looking chop cup called, I think, the Buddha Chop Cup from Fantasmo. Does anyone have this? The final load is a little Buddha! And the Buddha is 'chop' friendly (if you know what I mean).

And here it is:

Looks nice doesn't it? Though watching the promo video, I'm not impressed with David Roth's final loading. A wee bit obvious?

He was doing a pretty fast routine and i was relatively impressed up until that point. Its an obvious load and imagine how obvious it would be without the camera moving away from it!

Roth's loading of the Buddha is obvious, all right; but what is truly fascinating is that Roth could do all those moves without a "gimmicked" cup and ball(s).

cheers,

He's David Roth, he can do whatever the hell he wants!

I love the description of the props... for once, the fact that it's made in China is a positive statement :D

i've had that buddha chop cup set for ages, i think i reviewed it?

anyway, its a lovely looking set...well worth the money...

try steven's magic emporium for it, it may be cheaper...or rather, you have more choices there...

I must have missed you review. It looks like a lovely set, and although I have a chop cup that I'm happy with, I'm still tempted by that little beauty.

I sometimes use a length or curled up rope as a final load which then allows you to go straight into a rope routine.

However, I can think of a few occasions when I would have liked to have used a lump of turn to leave on the table

I maintain, a vanished item earlier always works a treat. But the final load does nothing if the performance up to that point has been naff! If spectators realise theres some foul play involved, the final load is INVALID!

I agree to a point and it is dependant on what the vanished item has been. For instance, a coin would be an anti-climax as the build up of the chop cup illusion is that the final loads should transform into something impossibly large and sufficiently different than the beginning loads in order to create the visual impact, and of course the misdirection.

You also have to be sure that whatever you vanish earlier will always fit inside the cup so in the instance of the chop cup I'm not sure that it matters all that much.

just a different view

I saw this in the flesh in November on my visit to Fantasma in New York (I was staying in the hotel next door, so it would have been rude not to have spent half my holiday in there).

The chop cup is lovely, looks well made, and the final load very nice too. The only slight criticism I have is that it is very dark, so it would work much better close-up rather than on a stage setting.

Thanks, I'm tempted to get it for my close-up set as I just like the look of it and the Buddha is a suprise final load.

I would certainly go for it Freddie, if you're looking for a nice chop cup, it's been very nicely made from what I saw of it. They've got a lot of nice props at Fantasma, but they can be quite pricey.
