One of the other creative hobbies I've dabbled in is inventing games. The only one I'm truly proud of is
Peaks and Pits, which requires a set of dominoes and some tokens (e.g. poker chips).
Another thing I've invented is a solitaire card game called
Elemental, which can pass the time quite adequately. The idea ultimately originated in my observation that the four suits correspond quite neatly to the four forces of nature in the druid culture in Terry Pratchett's
Light Fantastic (Charm, Persuasion, Uncertainty and Bloody-Mindedness).
Hearts are Charm obviously,
Diamonds are Persuasion because you can persuade someone to do almost anything if you give them enough diamonds,
Spades are Uncertainty because you never know what you'll find if you dig, and
Clubs are Bloody-Mindedness because if you bash someone's brains in with a club then literally they have a bloody mind. It's quite a neat correspondence I think.
If anyone's inclined to give my games a go, particularly the domino one, I'm very appreciative and would love to hear your views. I don't believe it's unrealistic to hope that someone somewhere might play it/them regularly.
I don't know where the boundaries of this thread should be. Possibly games invented by TM members, but as that would probably be a quiet thread perhaps
anything invented by TM members apart from magic (particularly things other people can try if given some instructions). For example I've dabbled in
conlanging in my past. Just reply with anything
you feel fits, I guess.
