How To Get Exactly What You Want

Postby Tomo » May 9th, '08, 17:47

This week's New Scientist has a feature called "How To Get Exactly What You Want", listing eight methods of persuading people to give or do what you want. No, it's not NLP, but it is an interesting read.

Cool.

Is the magazine good? I've always wanted to read it but never got round to buying it...

The New Scientist is excellent, when bought at the airport :)

My French teacher buys it each month?(or however many times a month) and keeps them in our classroom. There is literally stacks and stacks on them, and it is really rather fun to go right to the bottom and have a look at the scientific discovery then, that is just taken for granted now!

I have found that a gun to the head is rather convincing when it comes to asking people for things of theirs that you may want or feel you need at the moment...

Good issue of New Scientist actually!

The stuff on persuasion was quite enlightening :D

You wont find much better anywhere and it's nothing - a rigmarole with a few bits of paper and lots of spiel. That is Mentalism

I'll have you know that I'm a Rocky Horror Show veteran, and I've got the ankles to prove it. Ouch!

Joking aside (for a change), I saw a program once where a young, rather attractive young lady was struggling with some cases at a railway station. Except she was an actor and it was all being filmed by hidden cameras. Anyway, their results strongly suggested that if you're a) female and b) easy on the eye, then loads of men will be falling over themselves to help you out with your suitcases. But if you're male - or female and not quite so well blessed, shall we say - then you can handle your own damn cases. Bit obvious I thought, but still made for interesting viewing.

i never offer to help any attractive woman with her suitcases anymore in london tubes/trains...mainly because i think women know full well that they'll get some bloke helping cos they're pretty so hang around throwing doe-eyed looks around...

and twice i ended up straining my back carrying what seemed like two dead bodies in suitcases for a woman little over five foot tall...

ladies - only pack what you can comfortably carry...

and i've never seen a woman ask a man if they'd like a hand - or even another woman for that matter...

someone once said chivalry is dead - because women killed it...

 :D   :P
