Well one person has voted that they would be prepared to pay more than £10 - find out who it is, charge them a whole lot more - that will keep the costs down for everyone else

I had a look at getting enamel badges for the shop, this is what i was quoted,

Min Quatity - 200 - £450
Machine set & Master Die - £250
Postage - £29
Vat - £127.58
Total - £856.58

£856.58 / 200 = £4.29 per badge to breakeven

The more you get the cheaper it becames, also is only £50 to set the machine on the second run.

In all fairness to TM, Enamel Badges are expensive, maybe a printable badge template would be a better idea :), seeing as there has only been 31 votes.

How much would shipping be for those in the states?

Barton: Have you read the Bible, Pete?
Pete: Holy Bible?
Barton: Yeah.
Pete: Yeah, I think so. Anyway, I've heard about it.

As we're still in the early stages of design choices, we can't say at the moment but they're only lightweight items so not a great deal of postage would be involved. However, if there isn't sufficient demand for them then we won't go any further with the idea.

yes - what Mandrake said.

And the figures quoted by Darren would mean that all 200 would have to be sold at that price just to break even.

If you go with my design then I'll buy one! Haha!!

Or that second design from bananafish. That is lovely.

If you go with queen's design, anyone who is interested in one will take one. If that doesn't come to 200, queen told me she will buy the remainder to make up the 200....

I'd be willing to pay up to £10, including P&P. :)

It's a really rough effort using Paint, but here's my suggestion for a design:

The design might have to go into a circular surround. If so, it should be fairly easy to include the words Talk Magic somewhere, either underneath the top hat, or round the edge.

I think a badge should be eye-catching, and relatively simple. The Psycrets badge is a great example of a striking design.

What will they be used for? Spotting other members in the street and giving each other a knowing nod?

Considering the results of the Poll so far, they'll be very rare collector's only items :D !

I agree. This is not like the compulsory US flag badges for US politicians. What would they be for?

why not charge a one off fee for joining of a fiver? it'll help pay for maybe an upgrade of some description...or even some booze for the mods as a thanks..

you get a pdf welcome pack, and a little badge sent through the post..

it might deter secret seekers too...

Why do they have to be used for anything? Call me materialistic, but I wouldn't mind having some piece of merchandise - be it a badge, a pen or whatever - from TM. I spend a lot of time here and it would be nice to have something to show for it, however pointless some people may think the idea is.

In any case, I think it's purely academic; with about 30-odd votes in favour of this badge idea, it doesn't look very likely that it will ever see the light of day unless people are willing to pay about £20 per badge! :D

I think a TM coffee mug is the go... goes with the territory of sitting on one's back side at one's computer desk.
