Mirage... sorry if my comment about 'you must be doing something wrong' seemed directly aimed at you, but it was rather more aimed at the general audience.

It's true, though... using clean misdirection and keeping your angles tight, the TT should not be spotted. Video recordings are ideal to spot flashing TTs... and for instance, during bill switches or vanishes with a TT, watch the video and imagine that your audience will be transfixed on the OBJECT OF FOCUS rather than your unsuspecting thumb.

It's a psychological barrier to cross, but once you accept that they don't suspect your thumb, you'll be fine. For instance, when performing card magic, I've stuck the spectators selection to my forehead before now - and they've not realised because the heat is on the deck I'm performing Charlier's and one-hand shuffles with - where they suspect their card is.

This is just an example of how easily misdirected people can be. You have to try and put yourself in the speccys shoes sometimes.

Derren Browns 'Card Under Box' routine is a very similar example of 'cheeky' and bold misdirection. The TT is just another example.

You know thats a very good point, if you bought a routine for that on paper you may well feel the same "no way" way about it but Derren shows that as with all magic if you think about it, boldness and a good bit of eye contact/misdirection makes it not only possible but highly effective.

Anyway got my TT this morning :) Just to show how hard my working life has been, lol, I got the regular and it's a little bit large for my thumb but I'm liking it already :) Wish I had bigger hands though.

The TT will SHRINK slightly if left in hot water... therefore giving the illusion that you have bigger hands :)

If you put your hands in the hot water they will actually grow. If you leave them in the water ( even cold ) they will look a lot bigger. Maybe goers some way to explaining fishermans tails.:)

No need to say sorry about your comment, I fully understand where you were coming from & I needed someone like yourself to stop me trying to be a lazy magician & not watching my angles, I also use the card on the forehead routine & it sits there for quite a long time & you have to sometimes force them to look at you to see the selected card - great stuff. :D

There's a good deal to be learned from being a 'lazy' magician...

Quite a lot of magic requires a lot of hard work. There are many effects that work 'out of the box' with no effort at all. Unfortunately, TTs aren't one of them.

And I think it's this misconception that leads to questions about camouflage/colour etc.

A lot of work needs to go into producing a good TT handling. You need to be very au-fait with your TT to gain enough confidence to make a convincing performance.

'Lazy'? Perhaps.

But doing a 2-TT routine would certainly demand a LOT of misdirection!
Good luck ;)

I am not quite sure how many years ago the TT secret was let out to the general public & was also sold at one time in major toy shops as I am often asked when performing close-up magic do I use one of those thumb things I always reply no as I hide the tip in my palm, we must all aim to be so convincing that we are telling the truth & thats the art of good magic.
