Hey I am agreat fan of L and H. They even used a money printer in one of their films. They used it to double their money, but made no reference to it being a magicians prop. Maybe the next time you're out for food and a magician comes to your table you should give him a chance. Lets face it he is only there for 3mins and you would be helping his confidence in as you'll agree a tough enough business. Just a thot.

Honestly I try to put myself in a position not to watch mentalism and if I don't have to I don't. Problem comes into play because I grew up around magicians and most of my friends are magicians and they often ask me to watch thier show because they know I am very honest. They know my feeling for mentalism so i don't judge it on the entertainment value. I watch audience reaction and method.
And I think I am pretty clear when I say it is not a form of magic I am partial too. I freely and happily admit that many really do enjoy watching mentalism. Of course some folks love olive's and coconuts, something else I'll never understand.

I'm also not a fan of huge illusions but am often ask to come and watch the shows even though they know I'm not a fan. They ask because they know my opinions are not a personal attack and that they can get somebody's opinion who knows what is going on.

As far as being awakened by thunderous applause. Nothing pleases me more. If its for another magican even if I was not overly impressed I'm the first to applaud. And I'm more then happy for the performer. And if the applause is for me. Well I'm even happier to be awakened in such a manner. (was thinking of adding to this comment, but decided not too  ) I'm sure you will all figure it out.

I too like to go to a restaurant to eat and not be pestered. And yes I consider it pestering. And if a magician or any entertainer comes to me while I am about to eat, or have finished eating I usually thank them and politely tell them I'm not interested and send them on thier way. Actually if they come to me while I have food in front of me I'm not always so polite. Have never had a problem. And of course if I know them the issue never arises.

And I should probably add that I should watch a magician who comes to my table. I should lend him/her that support. But I don't. If I'm there to eat that is what I want to do. And that is part of thier job to respect that. I will go if I'm asked by the magician to come out and watch them perform. But then I am there for that reason. Also if its the performers first or second time at the venue. Then we get all the local magicians to go at different times and say wonderful to the manager about the magician in hopes that it works out and we can secure his/her job as best we can.

Hey Magicwand
How old are you? Isn't Cliff Richards a sixties rocker? I think he sang pop music until Mick and Keith wrote him a tune, "When Blue Turns to Grey" was the title I think. Anyway, I'm not too mental but, if you can entertain with it and the pace is brisk enough to keep their attention, then why not do it.

Didn't really know where you were going with the Cliff thing there. Yeh. Good shout. That goes for all types of magic.
Presentation is key. I have found that out the hard way. You have just got to believe in what you are doing . If you don't it's not gonna come across the way you think it's coming across.

Cliff Richards was a 60's pop star - true. However I was entertaining his fans in a restaurant just a few years ago. He's now in his 60's, has hits around Christmas time in the UK, is a Christian and his fans (themselves now in their mid-60's) tend to be Christians, white and middle class. They really don't like palm reading con-men like me.

The reason I was entertaining them is that a restaurant I used to have a residency at was just across the road from the local arena.

Actaully there was a crowd even more sour faced than Sir Cliff's - Daniel O'Donnell's! Yay gods! That lot were sucking lemons all night long!

"When blue turns to grey"? Not sure what the Dickens that is all about. Never heard of it. If you could whistle it, I'll try and jump in during the chorus.
