For anyone who's interested, this is a very rough script of how the routine has gone (although I've only performed it with spectators 3 times, I practice the piece every single day):

There's obviously no exposure here...

Kate: Let's try something with two people really quick. How about you two? Are you together?

Boy & Girl: Yep.

Kate: Lovely. OK, here's what we'll do.

*Ribbon-spreads and gestures at girl*

As the cards go by, just put your finger on whichever one feels right to you. That one? OK, take a look at it but don't show it to your boyfriend and especially don't show it to me!

*Ribbon-spreads again gesturing at boy*

The same thing applies to you, just take out whichever you... That one? Sure? OK, same again make sure you'll remember it if you see it again but don't show anyone else.

*Starts overhand shuffling deck and turns back to girl*

Now we need to lose these cards so please just shout stop whenever you'd like...

Girl: Stop!

Kate: Great, just drop your card right ontop there. *Continues to shuffle, burying the card*

*Swivel-cuts deck and extends top packet to boy*

And again, just drop your card in the middle there.

*Second card is now 'lost', too*

Now, do you believe in fate, or are you more cynical and you just reckon things like that all boil down to coincidence?

*Who cares what they say at this point, it won't change the routine*

Let's try this. We'll take the top card...

*Turns over top card*

... and I'm assuming this isn't either of the cards you're thinking of?

Boy & Girl: No/No.

Kate: Good. If it was even I'd be shocked. But a really weird thing... if we take this card and place it in the middle of the pack...

*Places card out-jogged in middle*

... and (at boy) if you could now, for the first time, name the card you're thinking of out loud.

Boy: Ace of Diamonds.

Kate: ... and we give the card a little spin (spin flourish) and a flick... it becomes your card, the Ace of... OH! Damn...

*Removes out-jogged card from deck and turns it over. It's not the right card*

This isn't your card! This is the Jack of Spades. I have no idea how...

Girl: That's my card!!

Kate: Oh! Oh, right! I guess I must have got the trick the wrong way round or something. I'm really sorry. Anyway, I've found the Jack of Spades so we'll put that infront of you for just a second...

*Tables her card face down*

... and hopefully THIS TIME (turning back to boy) I'll find your card. What was it again?

Boy: Er... Ace of Diamonds.

Kate: Right, right. I'll tell you what, I'm going to try something amazing. I'm going to take the deck in one hand, try and cut it at your card, and then your card will ping right out of the deck and I'll catch it in my other hand!

*Hopefully this seems a ridiculously impossible feat and their eyebrows raise accordingly. Of course, I do exactly what I said I was going to do and as I turn it over...*

Your card, the Ace of Diam... Damn! (It's the Jack of Spades AGAIN).

*At this point I've either pattered about "I wonder what I put infront of you, then?" to the girl, or they usually know what's up already and make a grab for the other card without any prompting - which is, of course, the Ace of Diamonds, finally*

And that is the routine that I may or may not have "invented" :)
