am I right in thinking that Benjamin Earl's Heinemann (Past Midnight 2) shuffle is based on Lennart Green's afformentioned shuffle?

Well I think they're slightly different, but they give exactly the same effect. So yeah, you might as well stick with a Heinemann shuffle because they are pretty damn awesome anyway :)

Possibly, but as China conveniently has both about 20% of the Earth's land surface and about 20% of the world's population, possibly not. :) Anyway, I still feel that hindu shuffles in the UK (except of course for Chinese-Belgian marriage celebrations) look like a move, rather than a routine event.

The fastest Hindu Shuffle I've ever seen was shown to me by an Indian doctor many years ago. He wasn't a magician.

This shuffle works well with Tarot cards, which, as they tend to be larger than playing cards, are a bit awkward to shuffle overhand.

You can, in any case, use the Hindu Shuffle controls with an overhand shuffle - see Hugard's "Modern Magic Manual" or RRTCM Chapter IX. I learnt the Hindu Shuffle first, then found it easy to adapt the lift control to overhand.

Ben Earl's grey shuffle was the one that was loosely based on Lennart Green's shuffle, the green shuffle, he saw him do it in a competition act in 1988, but he didn't know how he did it, so he came up with his own shuffle

Sorry, Ben Earl's Grey Shuffle is what I meant, the Heinemann shuffle is an Oz Pearlman idea. Oops.

The Grey shuffle, in my opinion is the nicer looking of the two, although the Heinemann has its advantages.

Thanks to Lennart Green (dont shoot me - he's the only magician I admire who only performs card magic), I replaced my natural Overhand shuffle with a hindu shuffle, because I realized that all the controls (for example the ones in the first chapter in RRTCM) could be done "in hindu" as well, and also there's his Circulation Blind shuffle which works awesomely when you get it right.

I vary my shuffles and explain that in different parts of the world, people shuffle cards differently. I will do the Hindu shuffle control and force. I will do a overhand shuffle when using a R@S deck. I will also do the overhand shuffle force. Most of the time I will riffle shuffle on the table or in my hands. My main reason I like to riffle shuffle on the table is that, after controling the selected card to the bottom,(using the convincing control or Kelly bottom placement) I will reverse the bottom card and cut it to the middle. The reversal is never detected. I also like doing the triumph.
