I always had the preconception that the person concerned was supposed to mix the cards, or at least cut them. Hasn't mentioned that in my book yet though!

The Emperor, The Emperess, Death

What immediately flashes up for me is a rift between male and female, a dissonance betwen one perspective and another, a fragmented psyche.. fragmented in that on the one hand "Creativity" (The Empress) and "Authority" (The Emperor) are perhaps unintegrated (Death).

To me it implies that the subject (Randi) might be incongruent or inconsistent. The other thing that I am triggered to suggest is that Randi might have come from a broken home or that his parents don't get on or that he is emotionally distant with his parents.

I wish you'd have thrown the Minor Arcana into the mix as well, Abraxus. I get mildly irriatated by these purely Major readings as the minor add subtlety but obviously this isn't set in stone. Just thought I'd throw in a gripe.

ah i used the new carnie deck...no minor cards...

mine would be:
the emperor seems to be turning his back upon the empress, as if he's got his eyes on the prize, he's looking at a big shiny sceptre, a glittering prize...carrying a sack on his back too it looks like he's gained or gotten something "big"...but on the floor, discarded is a shield..his protection is ignored right now...

in the middle, looking directly at me, is the empress, who is carrying the shield that the emperor had dropped and walked away from, she too carries the sceptre, but both objects are in balance with one another, she has found her true equilibrium, a natural state of being almost...

death has his sythe in hands, smiling, the severed heads of a man and woman are on the floor, so are two sets of hands, but only one pair of feet...so who is still walking away? the death's face is smiling, almost in a genuinely friendly way, almost as if he is sweeping away the body parts, from the floor - starting afresh...

to me, it looks like randi feels as though he has turned his back on alot in his life, and has remained focused throughout, however he's not achieved the same level of peace or balance as he could have in his life. It may be soon that someone or something forces him, or catches up with him to re-think or start over.

I was about to interpret the Randi cards until I realised it's 2.19am and I've just got back home after driving for 3 and a half hours from Tonbridge bloody Wells. That's after working in Durham last night at a student ball alongside Scott Mills (who I believe spins chart discs on BBC Radio One).

Will have a go tomorrow when I am rested.

Good night and godess bless.

I see it as a prediction that he will make peace with Uri Geller and all will be sweetness and light in his world.

I won't explain how I interpreted the cards that way since it is not the cards themselves that do the trick so much as the feelings that the cards trigger off.

If you think I am talking nonsense just wait and you will see my prediction come true within the next few years. I would say 3 years to be exact but it may be sooner. The timing of these things is the difficult part.

Remember you read it here first.

 That's cheating Mark... Uri and Randi kind of buried the hatchet some years back... I know when James had his bi-pass Uri was "sending healing energy" to him and from what I've picked up in the couple of emails I've had with Uri in the past few years, they've kind of let the past stay in the past.

As to the Cards "randomly" chosen... I do see a kind of dark inner conflict and distance within the self even though it could have been triggered through the family connections... I think most of the darkness or "strife" this would implicate stems from personal demons and oddly (because of the death card) coming to terms with them... getting honest with himself and possibly many elements in his life and in a way that is metamorphic... a shift or transition as it were, that most wouldn't expect.

Now someone thought they'd be cute and challenge me to do some "real magick". Obviously a fool who has absolutely no concept as to what "real magick" is, what it is all about and how it actually works. But, as I've pointed out previously THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS THE "SUPER NATURAL" and too, THERE IS NOT SUCH THING AS THE POOFTA STYLE MAGIC YOU SEE ON TV IN THE MOVIES, ETC.

Magick, in my opinion, is merely an archaic term for what has become known as Science and Nature... the two do work hand in hand with one another. Understanding that, the "laws" of the Universe and so forth, then you know how to work with the ebbs & flows in life in order to create, change, shift, heal your own part of the world and life. You can likewise use these "secrets" to help inspire others to accept their own personal "Power" (greatness) and thus, take charge of their own life and bring about positive transformation... at least that's what the Alchemical path was about... I lean more toward Hermetics however.

And no, what I've stated isn't a cop-out nor does it prove that Magick don't exist. Only that your perspective of Magick is not based on the truth of the matter but rather the fantasy and myth-based propaganda.

I will give you one kernel to chew on though... if ever you encounter a certain Illusionist named Harrary ask him about how my hot hands took all the pain out of his back one night at the Magic Castle so he could go out and do his part of the show. Then again you could look into that little thing a certain dove worker named Pollack did with a Pendulum, finding several major oil producing sites for the late J. P. Getty of Getty Oil.

OK give us sceptics one (or more) peer reviewed formal study references that we can take a look at and try to judge fairly (I acknowledge I have my prejudices as do we all on this subject but I'm open minded enough to take a look).

I suggest Soren and other sundry sceptics go and study the post again. It is on this thread amongst all the tosh and all he has to do is seek and he will find.

I thought your post was very interesting and, whilst fearing to stoke the ego any more than neccesary  made a lot of sense. Even as a sceptic I can see how what you're suggesting could have a ring of truth.

Come on now, this is hardly compelling. Look at:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-HbhY7qBJE

to see how the flip side can be just as easily presented from the same material. For all we know, the two could have 'read' 10 people and the best performance of Sally picked for broadcasting. I not saying this is what DID happen, I'm just saying that a clip like this does nothing for the broader discussion (other than being amusing  )

Cragglecat, you could, make this thread a lot more concise and easier to understand if you just edited your posts and added in new information instead of three directly after each other.

BACK TO TAROT I say for the second time, could a proficient reader tell me why we use certain spreads? Why The Celtic Cross etc?

Technicall challenged I'm afraid - efforts to do what you've suggested have just ended in tears....

Once you become proficient you'll see that you don't actually need to use set spreads. Most readers at psychic fairs (for instance) tend not to use set rigid spreads. They do help focus the mind when learning though as each card has a meaning with relation to its position. I still use spreads at certain times as it also helps the sitter to understand better the reading and helps to dispell the feeling that you may be just making the whole thing up.

Muhaha, not to worry, it was just a suggestion. One thing I have noticed in this thread, is skeptics, cynics or whatever are nowhere near as aggressive.

I was always told the person who has to raise their voice in an arguement usually knows there in the wrong.

I have my views on Psychic ability which I'll keep to myself for the moment, but I think Tarot has way to many different meanings, uses and different types of reads with clashing belief systems to ever be attacthed to one type of phenemenom(sic)
