Pick a card any card variety of tricks aren't great for the younger kids, much to my disappointment when I started teaching in schools. Red black tricks are about the most effective tricks I found with the younger ones. Rope tricks are nice as you can do appearing and disappearing knot tricks you couldn't do with older people who would straight away realize how their done. Obvious color changes and straightforward appearing or disappearing routines seem the way to go for table hoping. Sponge balls are definitely one of the most satisfying for the youngest kids. Then levitation is the thing that leaves them breathless.

David Stone's "Real Secrets of Magic" has about 8 effects designed for standup walkaround magic, and I personally think it's brilliant. It varies from coins to ropes, cards, bottle production and a fun little trick just using the arms.

Lauren,

Everything in my pockets is close up magic, as you know. For kids, do Pen Thro' Note, float a note with Loops, coin trick such as Copper Silver, numerous packet tricks would work, Card Warp, my famous Dr Who reveal of a card goes down well with kids, simple stuff like coin thro' jeans or coin thro' silk !!!
