Thanks so much for all your suggestions, there really are some great ones.

I have decided not to do this show though. The production team arent prepared to clear up any of my issues, which is the first reason.

I dont like the idea of being played for a fool. At the end of the day I dont want to put my successful professional career on the line for a few minutes on telly - ive done quite a lot of telly in the past so to be honest I dont need another one.

Most of all, I dont want to risk upsetting my friends, colleagues and peers in the world of magic. Ive worked damned hard over the years to gain respect from those that I respect, and im not prepared to loose that - that is the most important thing to me.

Thanks so much for all your help guys.

Give them my number then! I am fully prepared to be a fool and i have few very friends/colleagues in the magical world!

Any chance you could go on and just perform? or escape from a straight jacket or something?

I don't think it's that hard to come up with something that will not make you look stupid and still fulfill their demands. Its not really that deep and I think you are just analyzing the situation a bit too much If it was for a Fox TV special or something big like that then I might understand but Its not, so it seems like theres another reason for not doing it other than what you've stated. But on the other hand if you're not up for doing it then don''t.

I think British tv is far more analytical, critical & pesamistic than over the pond. It's a sad case but true, you only have to look at Britain's Got Talent & compare it with the US version.

Good on ya, I've walked away from a couple of deals recently because I didn't like what I was hearing from the production team. In my opinion, I think we have to be so careful with things like this as often there is a lack of understanding, or in the worst case a cynical attitude to what we do. Unless you have the team on your side and trust them (and if possible have a magic adviser) many many programs are out to expose/belittle or humiliate you or magic generally.

Magic isn't something anyone can do, it's far more complex than that. I spoke to a journalist recently who wanted a "crash course in magic" - he assumed that I would give him a whole act in 30 minutes and then he could go out on the "streets" to perform, write it all up; secrets and all! Devaluing the whole idea of what magic is/should be.

We need to be as in control as we can be with the media ... sad but true.
