help me find this gimmick and I will worship you forever!

Postby ionescofan » Aug 22nd, '08, 23:35

Okay, first off let me say that I am a theatre teacher first and trying to learn magic as a hobby with no intentions to perform professionally, I just don't have enough manual dexterity to be good at it. WHat I do have is a love for it. So much so that I have written a script set in a sideshow that has one effect that is baffling me (I guess I shoulda planned the trick before I wrote but I can't fight the muse) Anyways, here's what it boils down to (BTW, anyone who can point me in the right direction gets a free, first edition copy of the script, a picture DVD and testimonial for marketing purposes in order to aid further sales of the gimmick, and my eternal thanks. Also I will pay for plans that work, but only in US dollars and via paypal):

I need to make a man appear as if he only has an upper body. A half man in effect. He can be on a platform/table but the table must be moveable somewhat on the stage. I can have other characters move his "table" as part of the course of action.

I thought about using the Sphinx table setup, but imagine that there MUST be a more reliable way.

I am at a loss. The gimmicked tricks I have looked at aren't very promising.

I thank you for any reply.

- last answer removed.

I didn't notice you've posted this multiple times, in multiple places.

Is this a genuine question, or are you just trolling for secrets?

I believe he saw a clip of magic online.=It's this one of Kevin James, an illusionist in the US. He performed something on tv., part of which INVOLVED something similar to what he's talking about.

I think he saw it, and wants to know how its done.

i could be wrong.
But I'm quite sure that he's an method theif.

really seeking an answer not trolling

Postby ionescofan » Aug 23rd, '08, 19:00

I am really seeking an answer, I can send you the first 50 pages of the script if you would like just so you know I am not trying to sneak a peak behind the curtain so to speak, I am truly a theatre teacher and dabble in magic, but as I said am not good as some of my friends who are also trying to help me.

I posted several places hoping more people would see it, I hope that's ok? I don't want to break any rules on this forum

also...I wouldn't steal anybody's secrets

Postby ionescofan » Aug 23rd, '08, 19:07

I really don't want you to think I am a Method thief. As a writer I get very upset when people steal my work, so I know and respect intellectual property...as I said earlier, I am willing to pay for help with this, but as we are a high school in a relatively rural area of ALabama we can't spend too much on one effect. Anyone who can give me an idea will of course be duly credited as the creator...

Here's a link to my first play, I will post under my real name if it convinces you that I am not a method thief...

Help Me Find This Gimmick

Postby Allen Tipton » Aug 25th, '08, 11:10

:D So much depends on your set. If for instance, you could have a tall cupboard on the set you could work the effect with Black Art. Even have the man in trousers which when ripped away shows his lower half had vanished. It could even work with a large alcove, perhaps covered with a curtain. The important thing is to keep it simple.
It's a pity you didn't see Paul Kieve's work in the play The Invisible Man when he made the head disappear etc.

You can always pm me if you want to discuss it.
