NINJAPLUS: Linking to a finger ring

Postby BrianCaswell » Oct 1st, '08, 10:16

Matthew Garrett informed me a couple of days ago that the NinjaPlus project is nearing completion. The original idea was to link a Ninja Ring onto a finger ring. Early on I contributed a key idea in the development of this. That was about two years ago. Since then Matt has massively expanded on the original idea, invented dozens of new moves and really made this his own. He showed it to Shoot Agawa at Blackpool this year and Shoot was kind enough to acknowledge the originality of the effect.

You can do many effects with this that just aren't possible with Ninja rings or any other version of the linking rings. My main involvement was in doing the video work. Here's a couple of clips I made. One is a showcase of moves and ideas, the other is an unedited NinjaPlus routine from a locked off camera.

Yes I emailed Mr Garrett some time back regarding this, as I got a whiff on the grape vine...I offered for him to come demo it at our club...But as I didnt get a response I was rather dismayed...

Sorry to hear that Magic Chris. As far as I know it's only just coming together now. But I'll give him a kicking the next time I see him!

Kicking complete.

The effect is finally here, its only taken 2 years to get it this far!

I'm certainly up for doing lectures and demos at clubs.

I perform the ninja rings a lot. this is nice. I'm not sure you can use a borrowed finger ring without making people real nervous but you've got some cool moves there. great for a close-up show.

thanks :)

i use the trick on every close up job i perform at.
You do not have to borrow a spectator's ring if you are worried about it, but it does add.
Their finger ring stays in full view throughout the effect. I borrow a ring everytime, it works great it is a short part of the routine but powerful.

Hello,

I was lucky enough to get my hands on one of Matthew's early models of the trick, and the only word to describe the effect is AMAZING.

When I perform this trick now, when doing close-up performances, the reaction from the lay-audience is fantastic, especially when you link their ring to the larger ring.

I am very glad I had the oppertunity to use this trick early, and I won't be taking it out of my close-up routine anytime soon :)

Great work Matthew!

Thank you for your comments :)
It's been sent off to various magic magazines for review and will be advertised shortly.
