mind control - by alkazam and other saturday performances.

well i bought this effect for myself at christmas and had the chance to perform it for my best friends new girl who i had just met at his small xmas family get together at his house on saturday night.
to be honest first thoughts about this trick for me was ' this is not going to work/ how is this going to work? ' if you look around on here you ll be able to find a description of the effect.

i was trying to build up to the effect throughout the night like asking her questions to her like how open minded are you etc etc. and to be honest she seemed like the perfect candidate.then after some deep conversation about hypnosis and other magic related stuff i pulled out a piece of paper from my wallet- looked hard in thought and wrote something on it and put it into a small envelope for her to keep in her pocket.already this girl was nervous lol.
after an hour or so after a few beers and some fun chat, i knew i was ready to do some effects so i whipped out the cards and proceeded to do my favourite '2 card monte' . that went great and she was genuinley shocked which then gave the perfect misdirection to palm a couple of cards from my pocket and add them to the bottom deck for my next trick 'angle zero' by d. madison. this went wrong and i ended up forcing the wrong card because of my new handling, i was gutted as this is killer effect i even had the torn corner ready to pop in a mini sausage roll.ill need more work on that - but i do know exactly what i did.
i then palmed some more gimmicks for my next presentation for 'election' by eric ross. this went well even though there was a slight nervous slip up in the begining, but they nothing of it after they spread through the decks, but this is really strong, and i love it.
now it was onto end of my little act with the debut of 'mind control' i had my spec shuffle the cards and to make sure they were all different, i then explained to her that she had to peek a card in the deck, and here i was trying to use urm suggestible words to her because of the forced card that i had such as ' so if you peeked the JACK' and also ' if it was a BLACK card' 'then you should have a BLACK screen with that card stuck onto it' its nice just to get all that across which ill tell you after. anyway she closed her eyes and i blatantly made the switch for the blank cards after letting my friend to spread through them to see that they were all blank.but when i picked up the real deck i placed them on an uneven surface and they all slid off the table and went all on to the floor - but to be honest nobody really gave that much notice- but it was me who felt like an idiot. anyway she peeked the card when i told her to and asked her to close her eyes again and just confirm that she had seen a card while i was spreading the blank deck in front of my friends while she said she definitey saw a card in that deck- which was good as my friend was looking slightley bemused.i then placed the blank deck aside on the table and asked her to open her eyes again and name out that card she saw which was the jack of clubs. and then she sat there patiently for moment as if to say okay and whats next, but my friend looked at her and said in a surprised but serious toned voice ' claire all the cards were blank - there was nothing on them - he gave you blank cards' i then reminded her of the envelope inside her pocket which was placed in there an hour ago, and read 'through suggstion and mind control you will see the jack of clubs' the tension was immense so immense that she started crying!! no one could believe what had happened, i then gave some explanation that throughout i had been suggesting words to you and my mate piped up and said ' yes... i remember now as you reffered to the jack and the black canvass' it was awesome and it seemed that all the other slipups and just been totally wiped away. so i decided to pick up my cards that had fallen on the floor and then i got back up and then i saw it!!! all in slowmotion!! she picked up the blank cards that i ridiculously left on the table and she demonstrated by what she had done by peeking at a card - but as people will know who may have it the deck is gimmicked - and she landed at the jack of clubs again and again. and she just sat there and looking shocked and putting the deck down and then slapping me in the arm while shouting ' no no no' .
it was a huge kick in the teeth, i was devastated and kept on replaying it in my head thinking man if the cards hadnt fell on the floor and if i had picked up the blank deck first, S%&T S$%T S$%T . for a monet there i really had hem believing that i had implanted or even predicted an outcome, but now they probabaly think im a loser. so there you go guys that was my performance which went tragically wrong.!!! and hopefully i can learn from these mistakes for next time. thanks for listening.

Jordan - It wasn't a review - it was a description of a performance experience.

Thanks Naychandler for sharing that with us. A shame as it really looked like you had something special there. Still - at least you have learnt something from the experience...

It's not a review, it's a description of what happened on one particular night.

Sorry to hear it didn't go quite according to plan... Was that "no no no" a sort of shocked "you must be a witch" kind of no -- in which case it could be counted a success after all -- or just an "ooh you rotten cheat" kind of no?

Ah well, in years to come we'll all look back and laugh. Chalk it up as a learning experience.

I guess it leads to both, a review having just bought it and then a first time performance experience.

My bad
