Director's Cut is absolutely brilliant. I got it for Christmas and tried it out in public during a pub stroll last night and it amazed me that out of 10 strangers, about 4 or 5 of them choose Silence of the Lambs, while the others choose films like Bambi, iRobot, Die Hard ... :)

Looking out for the Horror edition too!

I might start keeping a tally of which films are chosen; it could make for interesting reading after a few scores of performances.

If they are not going to release "card only" for DC2
I might not get the DC2, since I already own DC1, and the price is not cheap. I might just print my own then laminate them.
the quality will if not the same, only better than the originals.

since the routines in DC1, are very easy and basic, it's not hard to come up with own ideas with horror version.

do you agree??

Note from Mods:

Firstly, your post has been edited as you exposed the working of the routine and that's not something we appreciate, please be less specific over such details.

Secondly, of course it isn't cheap, good magic has a value and that's what you pay for.

Finally, once someone has bought an item then they can create their own customised versions of that same effect but you have to consider whether, having only heard the idea of the second version and not actually bought it, you feel it's ethical to make your own. Bear in mind that the creator of these effects spent a lot of time, almost 2 years in fact, working and developing the concept and really ought to be paid for his time and effort rather than sit back and watch others copy it for free. Your decision.

Easy - as in few sleights yes - they still needs to be performed well though - and as for basic? well I thought the effects were all pretty strong, I do know the reactions I get from them are very strong, but each to their own.

I don't have an issue with that. The whole premise of the cards is they are a tool for the performer to come up with their own ideas. In fact judging from the emails, letters and phone calls I have had - everyone is doing just that and making some very unique and incredibly inventive effects.

Any item sold that can help with individual creativeness has to be a good thing right?

The horror cards won't just be more of the same - well to some extent they will, obviously - but there will be a few extras that can be used with or without the exisiting DC cards as well. Also, as well as a good cross section of horror films there will be a few extra non horror films that can be used with either (or even both) sets and of course there will be lots of new ideas.

Do I agree that you can make your own set and come up with your own effects? Absolutely - if that is what you want to do. It will only cost you time, and a bit of printing. A bit of a funny thing to post on a magic forum though - but knock yourself out.

I am not a huge contributor here and the above statement is why - that sickens me.

For me 'PRESENTATION' is where the real magic happens. You wouldn't say 'pick a card, its the 4 of clubs' would you? (I hope you don't?)

anyway from what Peter was telling me the extra *cough cough* cards you get with DC2 seem to open up the effect beyond naming the film. Lastly they will be some duplicate cards if you have both 1&2 but i plan on combining the 2 where posible, after all more choice makes it more imposible

As well as the main Horror films there will be 4 additional horror films, so you get a little bit of choice in making up you personal set

Although it should be remembered that if you want you can use all the films at once.

There will also be one dupliate, one double blank and 4 more non horror cards that can either be used with the new deck - or the old.

Obviously if you have both sets - you can combine them all - for which a plethora of new effects immediately open up.

There will also be alot more ideas for effects although I love people coming up with their own routines - there is some great thinking going on with DC

Thanks for that post, Simon; ten extra cards, you say? I might as well give you my money now. :D

I love the fact that DC is so versatile and is open to many different presentations. And the fact that DCII will include some extra cards just makes it even better, with scope for some very creative effects.

By the way, how does everyone store their cards? I use one of those small Snopake plastic holders from Rymans (the ones with the red press stud closure that are meant for business cards) as they are the perfect size for DC and not only keeps the cards clean when not in use, but also does a great job protecting them from damage or bending.
