Impression Pad\board

Postby Dirty Davey » Dec 29th, '08, 17:06

I'm on the hunt for an impression pad or clipboard. I've never used one before, other then a few home made versions so I'm not really all that sure where to start looking.

I'm after something that I can use on the stage so the peak needs to be fairly quite and easy. The routine that I've got in mind will have quite a nice piece of misdirection built in so getting the peak shouldn't be too difficult as long as it's fairly simple.

What are the best pads or boards that people are using? I've ordered the Direct Vision Clip Board from Mr E and have been looking at the Tommy Pad. Does anyone have any opinions on either of these or any others that might be worth a look at?

John Riggs is rather splendid when it comes to this sort of thing. Perhaps he has something suitable...

By the way, I have the Tommy Pad but I'm not sure as to its suitability for stage use. Check out the review...

Hands down favorite of most every working pro will be the Brown Hornet or Pro Hornet from John Riggs (John St. Germain).

John offers a wide range of amazingly deceptive, easy to work with imp systems that are heralded as the best on the market. They are likewise destined to becoming major collector's items in that the material used for making the gimmick is no longer being manufactured (and for those that think they know what the gaff is, understand that John uses a specific type of system for very specific reasons that are not common to similar products.)

BTW... if you do Close-up at all, you'll fall in love with the Skeeter and Butterfly versions.

Thanks for the tips, I've heard a lot of good about John Riggs so will have a look into his products.

I've read a lot of mixed reviews about the Tommy Pad, which is why I was hesitant about getting myself one. My board from Mr E came today and the peak is very quick and so simple (why didn't I think of it myself). I'll have a play with this for now but one of John Riggs boards will go onto my ever expanding list of 'must haves'.

I found that the Brown Hornet looks and works great!

I have the Butterfly notepad, but don't like it. The first 6 times that I used it, it didn't work!
