Just to play devils advocate: Are you allowed to have the camera focused on the magicians face most of the time, seeing as that's where the spectators eyes will be? Afterall, one continuous camera shot is not the way your audience views your magic, one can't misdirect a camera.

To play a very devilish devil's advocate, I'd say that the goal is (as you say) to entertain. But not to show off magic skills, necessarily. If you can convince the audience that no camera tricks are used, stooges are banned and so on (and then you use them), then 'mission accomplished'. They will be entertained and you achieve your goal.
