How'd the computer know it's me??????

Postby Lady of Mystery » Jan 12th, '09, 16:02

I always have the login automatically thing, ticked for Talk Magic so when I log in on my computer I don't have to type my name and password in. I understand that, I guess it saves it somewhere on the computer.

But at lunch time I was borrowing a friends computer here, I thought I'd log into TM and somehow it knew it was me and logged me in automatically. How'd it do that??? And I guess that means if someone else goes to TM on that computer, they'll log in as me too? :?

Quite probably it recognised the IP address. On a shared or works computer I always elect to log in each time rather than leave it on automatic login.

Are both computers in the same domain? Did you use the same domain username and password to log into this PC that you would your usual one?

Windows can store (if set up to) some of your personal settings on the domain server so that whatever PC you log in at picks up the settings you usually use. That would explain it.

If that's not it then there's something pretty strange going on.

What you call heroism is just an expression of this fact; there is never a scarcity of idiots

If you borrowed that friends computer before and logged into TM it remembers sometimes because that happens when I login at my mums

Hmmmm I don't think that I've ever logged onto TM on that computer before.

The computer was logged in with her name and password.

Perhaps I'll make sure that I don't tick that box anymore when I'm at work, just to be on the safe side. Although I'm sure that noone here is likely to visit TM.

Your computer is evil. Burn it immediately...

*nods* Clearly possessed.

Your reality, sir, is lies and balderdash, and I'm delighted to say that I have no grasp of it whatsoever.

There's a dwarf inside it. I'm certain. Break the damned thing open tomorrow and search the maniac out. He's following you.

You're nearly right dup, it turned out to be a spiteful little pixie who's been following me around for the last couple of weeks making all sorts of things go wrong and hiding things from me.

I caught him this morning trying to stop my car from starting. It also turns out that he's been getting a little too friendly with one of my fairies. I just hope she's been careful, a fairy\pixie cross is a worrying thing.

If it stops your car from starting, it's not a pixie but a gremlin.
Far worse.
Burn the car too... (Don't throw the car in a lake...)

Kill it with fire, it's the only way to be sure.

Oh yes Lommie, a pixie/fairie hybrid is most dangerous, we frown upon such breeding practices and by clapping our hands vigarously to break the secret enchantments that allows us fairies to populate when ever we see a pixie fellow getting to friendly.
Besides procreation for pixies is very risky as involves eating three doughnuts, which for us fairies is 37 times our body weight, let alone the incidences of drowning in the jam !..
Im so glad im not bi-mythical....

Oh dear

If the fairies look like those, please use a flame thrower to get rid of them.
