Hmmm. You all seem totally stumped. Note that I deliberately omitted the "?" to make things harder - it seems to have worked a bit too well!

Bah - you're all rubbish!

I told you that I deliberately omitted the "?" to make it a bit harder.

The answer, of course, is false.

Who wants to do the next riddle?

You made a statement:

The Stoner wrote:Which magazine tells you all about fishing

..... which is not even a question per se.

I think Fairie's questioning of the validity of your statement, was a good enough reply:

Correct - I never said it was a question, it's a statement. And I said that the "?" was missing to make it harder.

So, with the "?" replaced, the statement becomes...

"Which? magazine tells you about fishing".

To which the correct response is "False - Which? magazine tells you about comparative surveys of consumer products and services".

Fairie was the closest - but didn't explain reasoning. But they count as the winner I guess.

I'm not a reader of which which is why I didn't say false or whatever lol.

........ and on with the next riddle

Twenty-six people attended a party: Albert, Brian, Carol, ........ , Wendy, X-man (!!), Yvette and Zac.
During the party, Albert shook hands with one person.
Brian shook hands with two people.
Carol shook hands with three people ...... and similarly all the way down to Yvette who shook hands with 25 people.

How many people did Zac shake hands with?

(Obviously the answer can't be 26 as there are a total of 26 people at the party - so there are only 25 other people available to shake hands with - and the answer isn't 25 by the way!!).

Please explain your answer rather than just guess  .

I'll give it a go: 13 people.

My initial approach was to pair up handshake totals. For example, Albert shakes hands with one person, Yvette 25. Brian shakes two hands, X-man (why not Xerxes or Xanthippe?) 24. Each pair totals 26 handshakes. However, when you get to Malcolm (in the middle - geddit?), he shakes the hands of 13 people. Louise and Nigel have 'paired up' as it were, with 12 and 14 shakes respectively. Malcolm's handshake partner must be Zac, who also shook 13 people's hands.

This wasn't exactly scientific, so I worked it out the long way.

Yvette shakes the hands of every other person. This must include Albert. So, she was the sole person with whom Albert shook hands. X-man shook hands 24 times. This is everyone except himself (of course) and Albert. Walter must have shaken the hands of everyone except himself, Albert and Brian.

If you carry on with this, you end up with everybody from Malcolm onwards (M-Y inclusive) shaking hands with everyone below them in alphabetical order (and people above them too). That is 13 people shaking hands with Zac.
