how good are rhcp live? i want to seem them, but I'm worried if i go they wont be any good. i like thier albums, but that style seems like it would be hard to pull off in a live enviroment

RHCP were ok. Not much crowd interaction from them but they were good to see.

What about Jimmy Eat World? I absolutely love their CDs, but I've always heard that their live performances are a bit lacklustre. Besides which they pleay big venues these days, and I'm allergic to crowds of that size...

JEW I saw at MK Bowl and they did really well on that stage but they are much better in the more "intimate" venues like the apollos and academies.

I just reserved tickets to the Rockstar(aka best energy drink ever!) Mayhem Festival. I went to the very first year last year, and despite nearly getting thrown out for yelling at staff, was amazing. This year is gonna be way better the current roster, which will likely keep growing is
Main Stage:
Bullet For My Valentine
Marylin Manson
and thrash kings SLAYER!!!!!!!
Jagermiester Stage:
Trivium
All That Remains
God Forbid
At least one more headliner and they host a battle of the bands in each city and allow the winners to open the stage in thier respective cities.
Hot Topic Stage
White Chapel
Black Dalhia Murder
Job for A Cowboy
Cannibal Corpse
and polish black metal demons BEHEMOTH

I'm so stoked.

For my birthday about 30 years ago a friend took me to a Peter, Paul, and Mary concert in a park. We brought a picnic and had a good time. That's the only time I've ever been to see live music.

8 years ago I got the chance of 2 tickets for Terrorvision, but the date clashed with my honeymoon, close call..... then I hear that they are performing a comeback tour right when son number 2 is due to drop (number 2 is responsible for missing Terorvision and Derren Brown!!! But I won't hold it against him...)

Saw the Manics when they played LLandudno, very intimate and we found ourselves 8 foot from the stage. A fantastic gig, supported by The Enemy (they sound so much better live than on CD, like a rocked up version of The Jam if you know what I mean).

Saw Meatloaf at the NEC after his hospital scare, had his daughter on stage backing him, both fantastic.

I feel like I should and hug you. Steve Harris is the reason I picked up a bass almost 4 years ago. Last time they came to America, I was to broke to buy tickets :(

I've not been to that many "big gigs" because to be honest, I'm not a massive fan! Perhaps I'm just lazy or something, but I've never found it a particularly wonderful experience being on your feet for hours, needing the loo and/or a drink but not being willing to fight your way through the crowd, the tallest man in the world standing in front of you, the loudest, most obnoxious man in the world standing behind you, having music played at volumes which are certain to damage your hearing and actually reduce your ability to hear the nuances anyway... being charged £15 for T-shirt which will fall apart after a week...

I know - I'm a miserable old git

That said, I have loved some of the mini-festivals that go on, like GoJonnyGoGoGoGo in Leeds, with small bands you just wouldn't hear or think to go and see otherwise, and lots of little quirks - quizzes, sweets, raffles - all that twee indie stuff, and imaginative merchandise (I still use my "Zombina and the Skeletones" guitar pick all the time!).

The bigger gigs I've been to have been my absolute favourite bands, for whom it gives me a thrill just to actually be there, so, I've seen Belle & Sebastian twice and Iron & Wine twice. The first time I saw Belle & Sebastian, I'd only been into them for a couple of months but I was totally in love with their music and a series of coincidences and last minute changes meant that I only discovered I could go on the same morning as the gig, after days of being miserable because I thought I was going to miss it. I was in a dream like state, it was brilliant.

Perhaps that's what other people get at all these other gigs... I've got a friend who's always excitedly telling me who he's been to see recently. I'm not much of an idoliser I suppose, so unless the experience itself is fantastic without the "OMG I CANT B-LEEV IM WATCHIN TH KILLERS!!!" factor, I can take it or leave it.

Oh, Eels. I saw Eels (with strings) on the Blinking Lights tour at the Manchester Apollo. Seated, with a Russian animation for support. That was pretty darn good.

Actually, after that cantankerous post, I shall ask the question: what for you makes or spoils a concert?
