I'm still impressed with Kent Gunn's Funshop Cups and Balls, but the price is out of my range for a while.

Is this a specific routine and if so is there a clip of it anywhere? Just tried googling it to no avail....

Google returns this as #2 when you search for Kent Gunn. Is this what you are looking for?

We could do a little competition for whoever can put together and film the most original cups and balls routine. Would anyone be up for that?

The jason Latimer version doesn't get me going either.

I am working on something pretty original.

I will put it up whenits ready in about three years.

I was going to tell you it but thought better of it.

So really this is just a waste of typing.

okay Ill give you a clue.
I got the idea from Something I heard about malini's version.
He used to use glasses wrapped in newspaper and a chopped up cork.

I think david regals' (I think version is great)
He starts with plastic ones to show you how he learnt. Then uses copper ones and his final load, is a set of the plastic beginners ones.
Its a nicely rounded act, and the final load makes sense!

Thanks - I do like the handling as a lot of the loading moves are really well concealed in my opinion.

It's a good idea but I haven't created a routine of my own yet so I'd have to stay as a specatator!

I love the Cups and Balls, although have not got round to learning it myself. However, there is one version I absolutley hate! I couldn't remember the name of the kid that performed it, but Mandrake summed it up in another topic:
Mandrake wrote:Many years ago we saw on the Paul Daniels TV Show a young Indian boy doing C&B with full patter but in his local dialect which few could understand. It didn't matter as the routine explained itself as he went along and his 'sing-song' accompaniment just made things all that more enjoyable.

I hate the "sing-song" quality of his voice - it just grates on me and gets on my nerves! I have the whole Paul Daniels series in question on video (well my Dad does), and it's pretty much the only thing we ever fast forward on, because we find it so annoying!!!!
That and the guy who claimed he could say things at the same time as an audience member said it. For example, if they said "apple", he would say "apple" at the exact same time. It went on for what seemed like hours, and surely it was obvious that he was waiting a fraction of a second and working out the most likely word. very quick thinking, but dead boring. And yet the audience lapped it up! But I digress...

Cups and balls routines I do love include those by Ricky Jay, Jason Latimer and Penn & teller. I also love Bill malone's version, although I have since seen it performed badly, and it's taken a bit away from it for me. Shame.

The Fun Shop Cups and Balls

Postby kentgunn » Feb 18th, '09, 03:49

Hello there talkmagic folks. Here's my submission for most original cups and balls routine. If I win, send me some decent fish and chips. I can't get them here in the states. They seem to think chips are something different.

The current patter line is represented here.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t__UnSXmjvc

I don't agree with all the opinions in this thread. I think that the cups and balls can be a great trick. I hope my version is simple enough in appearance. I only have two effects, the balls jump to the middle and the balls jump to the left.

Lemme know whatcha think. I miss Scotland . . .

Oh, I sell the routine for twenty dollars U.S. if that seems outrageous, or too high as someone here posted that's certainly their opinion and they're entitled to it. I don't get price complaints in the States . . .

Kent,

Sorry if I have offended you about prices, I wasnt saying they are too high, I was saying that they are out of my range for now as money is tight. Also I was refering to the "Funshop Cups and Balls" routine, which I find to be a very good routine and would love to get a copy. I am here in the states also.

Anyway sorry for the confusion.

Largish fourth letter of the alphabet,

No offense taken. Tough times are everywhere. I made some narsty assumptions and will be summarily beaten. :o

I rather like it though.
