Message from Mandy Davis
Last weekend Ali Bongo fainted just before delivering a lecture in Paris. He was taken to hospital where they advised a pacemaker but Ali said he preferred to have an English one! Arrangements were being made to send him home today but things have got rather complicated.
Jack Delvin Vice President of The Magic Circle tells me that things are not looking at all good for Ali. His nearest and dearest have been told and his niece Allison is with him. We can only hope that he will pull through.
I met the guy last year - a wonderful chap who has done such a lot for magic. My thoughts will be with him...

Just heard this:
Ali has actually suffered a minor stroke there were complications and his family were called to his bedside. However in the last 24hrs his condition has improved enough that they are considering moving him back to London from Paris.

This is terrible news. Ali was one of the first magicians that I met when getting into magic. He is a brilliant man and has given so much to us over the years.
I will be keeping my fingers crossed for a safe return to the UK.
Thank you for keeping us updated bananafish and saxmad.

I met Ali a few of times last year and he's a true gent.
I hope that he recovers quickly.
It was noted at the SEMC on Saturday evening that he was very ill and Alan Shaxton attended in his place.

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

Ali's condition seems very serious. I hope all of us in the Magic Community can pull out all the stops for him and do what we can. This news makes me feel totally c**p. Feel helpless.......

Fingers crossed for Ali. He's a legend, and in this case I don't feel there's any exaggeration in saying that. I'd very much like him to stay around for many years to come.
