It's good to believe in that childlike Peter Pan innocence where all things can happen and magic is a reality. Sadly, as some of will know, there are very talented professional Magicians who are the most miserable, crabby gits on this planet and who would probably sell their grandmothers for a swift buck. I guess they either lost their charm due to the nastiness of showbiz or they are prime examples of nurture over nature.

Very true, I have complained many times about the number of people we get in studio 9 who have no magical skills whatsoever and yet call themselves proffesional magicians. They seem to have no understanding of what magic actually is, they just want to buy a magic box. Surely these guys are completely outside this topic? They are not naturally magical and they certainly haven't put any effort into nurturing magic, they just buy stuff and perform it. I will say that I have never seen any of them perform, so it is possible that they are the most charismatic performers you could imagine, and that it makes no difference that they chose magic for no good reason and have no wish to understand or enjoy it.

I guess the same is true of some 'actors' - nice as pie on TV or stage but right miseries in real life. Many comedians are the same but I can forgive them as I'd get peed off if total strangers kept stopping me in Tescos by saying, 'Make me laugh' or something equally challenging!

Dunno whether anyone remembers a ventriloquist of many moons ago by the name of Arthur Worsley - he always had a straight face and never said a word in his act, the dummy did all the talking and the main catch phrase was where the dummy spoke to Arthur and said, 'Look at me when I'm talking, son'. Anyways, Arthur was usually the most placid and nicest of guys in real life but lost his rag one day when some 'fans' who saw him out shopping in Bournemouth became very abusive when Arthur could only spend a few moments to talk to them. In view of all the insults, he rarely made any contact with the public after that and the legend of his miserable persona lived on.

Some people retain their natural youth whilst others, during the mental decline that comes with getting old (25+) start to regress to a more childlike state?

I think Freud would somehow link it to sex (am I allowed to say that here?) - but let's leave it at that . hmm - maybe that's why there's always a lovely assistant. Ok I'll stop b4 I get kicked out of here..

I would guess that a lot of the people who start late are often interested in the art from an early age, but never got round to actually learning it.

I just know you're looking in my direction now and I plead guilty as charged - with mitigating circumstances. Whatever those are.

sex (am I allowed to say that here?)
Yes please - but you may have to explain things in more detail to those of us in the above group who can't quite remember what it involves.
