There are lots of very hard working people who are loosing their jobs at the moment and they're not all sponging off the benefit system.

If either I or Dave was to loose our jobs (as I said earlier half my team already have) then we'd find ourselves in quite abit of trouble and would really find it difficult paying the mortgage.

Situations have nothing to do with who you are or your social standing, it's about being lucky. Which at the moment I am, I can't see the company getting rid of any more designers and Dave works in public sector so is pretty safe at the moment.

Funny thing about the word mortgage, it comes from the Latin mort meaning death and gage meaning a pledge. Literally a pledge until death.

I feel terrible for the amount of decent people losing their jobs because of this financial situation that the government and the financial people were too arrogant to realise was inevitable.

Luckily for me I work for a pharmacy, so my particular retail sector is something rather safe - when money is tight people decide to cut back on buying DVDs and CDs so Zavvi closes, or cut back on buying new furnishings and appliances so Woolworths closes, but nobody decides to cut back on essential medications and health & beauty products.

Sadly, Zavvi were forced to close because they lost their supplier (Woolworths). It just goes to show how dependant companies are on other companies doing well

This thread seemed to be going off the rails a bit so we'll just give it a rest for the time being.
