Website Hosting and/or Design

Postby themagicwand » Mar 31st, '09, 20:16

Well I'm in shock. I have a very crappy little website - www.thepsychicentertainer.co.uk - that isn't going to win any design awards but does the job that I need. I do most of my work for a couple of corporate companies and so I don't worry too much about getting random bookings these days.

The website company who originally sold me the package about 9 years ago, and who also host the site for me, have just sent me an email saying I have one month to upgrade the website onto their new software or my site will be taken off their server. The "upgrade" will cost me £1000 plus VAT.

Now I'm not about to upgrade to something I don't need and pay a grand for the pleasure, so looks like I'm in need of a new hosting company. If anyone here has their own hosting company can you have a look at my site and see if hosting it should be a problem? The company I'm currently with have offered to "zip the software up" and send it to me so I can then email it over to a hosting company.

The other problem is the domain name. I think I may have bought it and then passed the info onto the hosting company. Sadly now I can't locate passwords, user names etc. How much of a problem would this be? Would I need a new domain name? Rather not if possible as I've just bought a load of biz cards!

But while I'm here - my website is rubbish and I'm kind of feeling the call of the wedding and home party market calling me. I did no weddings last year and I miss those barmy summer afternoons sipping Pimms and reading tarot cards! So if anyone wants to quote me for a nifty and attractive new site, please feel free to quote me - especially if you can host it for me as well. But price-wise remember that £1000 is too, too much.

Thanks in advance.

alexander marsh does a good line in mentalist friendly websites - he's a jolly decent chap too...

he may be a little busy cos he's expecting a baby (not him, his good lady) but i can vouch for him - top guy...and he's a mentalist too...

I highly recommend evohosting.co.uk

I've used them and never had a single problem. Fiver a month and a butt load of transfer.
