For when someone hands you their deck and without any prep, I like Twins as done by Andrew Murray (I think it's originally from Karl Fulves Self Working Card Tricks - I'd need to check when I get home). Dead easy to perform, quick and gets very nice reactions.

EDIT: Just checked - Twins is originally from the Karl Fulves book as I thought. Andrew Murray credits Mr Fulves on the DVD too. See page 104.

i just read this up the other night from paul gordons book. in his book he does three cards and has a problem card at the end. i prefer to cut this out and get three instant matches. its called "the mahaan gemini" from "professional card magic miricles" but a very simillar effect.

Ps cheers paul for the book offer. im sure theres more in there, i just havent read through it all yet.

I'm sure there are others out there who have things the same of similar, but my favorite trick would be a mind reading trick with cards. It can be done anywhere with any deck of cards, shuffled by anyone.

You get the spectator to just cut the deck anywhere and explain you will read their mind, well personaly I tell them they must keep a poker face as their face will be the part of their body giving things away. Then I start to tell them if their card was red or black, the suit and finally the value.

The method I use is so simple the forst few times you do it you can't believe you'll get away with it, but after a while you just trust it. There isn't any problems with angles, I've done this infront of a room full of people watching and nobody catches you, which actually gives you such a buzz.

It's not only a great trick, but helps you improve your presentational skills, and confidence.

If anyone is interested, just sent me a message and I'll explain, however, you'll be shocked that you didn't think of it.

Love him or hate him, Luke Jermay's 49 seconds is killer with a borrowed deck, anything of the Spelmann Discs is also very good, Just a Thought is probably the best, think Radar Deck with shuffled borrowed deck.

With a deck of cards it has to be OOTW as taught by Andrew Murray in his Thirteen DVD. It's completely impromptu and gets fantastic reactions.

Otherwise it's the AAA Coin bend which I am always ready to perform.

Four aces, you show two aces, both reds and hands it to a spectator. Later, your black aces switch places with the reds.

That is Dr Daley's last trick by the sound of it.

As for impromptu tricks.

Dr Daley's
Twisting the Aces
The Biddle Trick
Design for laughter
Colour changing knives
Any paddle trick
Rapscallion
A couple of card sandwich tricks
Ambitious cards
Karl Fulves Twins
Jazz Aces.

I'd have to agree with some of the others here that my fave impromptu effect with a borrowed deck would be a mind reading effect. Force a card, hot read it - simples (as that intollerable meerkat would say.) However, I like to add in a load of raw mentalism, like having the spectator think of a letter in the value of their card and then reveal it, this kills!

Has to be Diplopia by Paul Vigil. Can be used with any deck in any conditions unless cards are missing.
another great one is OOTW by Derren Brown

Genuine NLP lying mind Reading is a great impromptu routine that isn't based on cards.

I sincerely hope you're not referring to EAC, because that's just nonsense.

it's about 90% accurate, not to the chart specifically, but once you have a 'baseline' to compare to, the reilts can be quite good.

No it's not.
I'd love for someone to show me a comprehensive study of EAC to confirm these kinds of claims. I laughed through that part of my NLP Prac

Well... maybe not 90% accurate  , but it definitely works, i've used it a fair bit and failed maybe twice. Considering its genuine impromptu-ness'ss'ness I think it's a valid routine to try out.

Regardless of its accuracy, not great mentalism IMHO. All you're doing is demonstrating something found in countless textbooks and corporate workshops the world over. Even if the audience doesn't know their EAC from their elbow, there's enough accepted myth about lying and eye movements.

A more fun EAC (without using it!!) effect would be to explain the basics of it and show a demonstration, asking a number of people to make a statement, either true or false, something you could not know. Of course, you spot the liars but as a kicker tell the liars the actual true version of their statement ;-)
