Hi,
I've been lurking here for a while to get to know the place before taking the plunge.
Having been trained as a Hypnotherapist and in NLP, I eventually came across the amazing Mr Derren Brown's performances a few years ago (and saw Enigma live a couple of weeks ago. Mind blowing!!!! The ending is just the most amazing thing he's done yet). My interest in mentalism came from those things, along with a burning desire to hear those immortal words from people "HOW did you do that?!?!". I've always been in awe of magicians and the few friends I know who can do the odd bit of card magic. I decided to learn this arcane art myself and it's been great so far

So, picking up some card effects with various books and DVD's and making my fingers sore with shuffles and the Elmsley Count is taking up most of my free time at the moment. I still cannot do any sleight, unless you count using the wonderful ID. Having just bought the Invisible DVD by Jay Sankey (complete with deck), I'm completely hooked on playing with it. It's so easy to use and gives some amazing results.
I recently spent a small fortune on various effects, but am not up to performing yet, except to do a few routines for my long suffering wife and some close relatives. So, I'm working through Royal Road and learning Invisible (Jay Sankey), Royal Magic's ESP deck, Eliminator (Adrian Sullivan), Free Will (Deddy Corbuzier) and a few others. I just took delivery of the Submodalities DVD too and will be posting in the review thread about this one.
I'm having a blast and am totally and utterly focused on getting the adrenaline rush reaction from other people who are desperate to know the secret of what even a complete novice like me can achieve. I wish I'd done this years ago!!!!

My burning desire right now is to go and buy Luna or Witches Almanac as the dark side really appeals to me. It's just the cost and fact that I'm not a pro performer by any means putting me off. I have limited options to use routines like this yet and so am not sure I can justify the outlay. For the £75 (approx) to buy this one effect, I could purchase many books/DVD's/decks which would teach me many more possibilities.
Anyway, I just want to say thanks for the forum. A few products I've bought recently were due to reviews and comments here and I'm generally very pleased with the money invested. Some I bought before finding talkmagic were a waste of money and a let down. You live and learn.
Sorry for the long post. I get a bit carried away with this subject hehe!

All the best,
Wishmaster
