I love religious nuts calling to my door and trying to shove their beliefs down my throat. Because it is a perfect opportunity to preach the athiest creed. I love a good argument, but unfortunately I have never managed to convert one.
By the way I used to give them short shift at the door, until one day I ended up feeling quite small. I was under a van having a very difficult time changing a double wheel. Two Jehovah's Witnesses stopped and began to speak. I told them what I thought of them and their god. They backed away, and one of them said: "We were only going to ask did you want a hand with the wheel."
I felt so small. Since then I will always be polite. I explain I am not a believer, offer them a cup of tea, and if they are interested we get down to debating. Most run. A few stay, and I hope both sides get something out of the encounter, even if it is only a break from the routine.
Just keep in mind, if they can preach so can we.

I'm a door to door atheist...i knock on people's doors and say nothing, hand them a blank piece of paper and wish them a good day...

theres good and bad religious people, good and atheists...

going back to what lawrence was really saying, i would like to add people who begin with "I'm not being funny, but..." and then say something quite ignorant and dumb or even insulting to someone...

"I'm not being funny, but...you really do look like a horse's nadger..."

or people who feel the urge to correct your use of English, despite they themselves do the same and they lack the self-awareness to realise it...

Classic, as well is the "I'm not racist, but..." To which I can't help but say: "let me guess, some of your best friends are coloureds...?"

(Your thread has been well and truly hijacked, Lawrence, but to be fair, it's absolutely you're own fault )

Edit: beat me to it again, Tomo :)
