Completely Impromptu! Glasses.

Postby crozboz » Jun 4th, '09, 15:02

When I go out - I always carry certain things with me.
- My Glasses
- My Ring
- My Watch
- My Keys

If I'm planning on doing magic -
- A Sharpie
- A Coin
- A Deck of Cards

If I dont have a deck of cards on me (God forbid), and all I have is my glasses, ring, watch and keys, I want some effects I can do.

My watch is a time machine, so I've got a trick there
I've got a routine with my ring, which is alright,
I do Greg Wilson's keyring routine, which is fun,
But I can't find anything with my glasses. I do Carl Cloutier's snapped & restored glasses, but the restoration is only impressive with someone else's glasses, and a modifed jacket.

Any ideas?

All the best,
Tom

Tommy Wonder's Ring, Watch & Wallet - just adapt it for the keys/glasses. Reveal the ring, then the watch, and as you're doing that put the glasses on your head and people won't be able to track back to the moment you put your glasses back on. All you need is an envelope for that one.

Yeah, I can see your point, but then again, needing to carry around an envelope sort of defeats the point of it being impromptu.

You could use Lennart Green's thrown glasses idea, it's not really an effect, but it is a funny little opener.

Well obviously to do it exactly like he did you'd need the pull but there's ways around that.

Lenny,
I use a joke variation on Lennart Green's toss, where you leave it with one arm sticking underneath your shirt shoulder. In a similar fashion to the old "pen-behind-the-ear" trick. You then turn round, and brush it off as a joke. If I'm sitting down however, I'll use Lennart Green's cleaner approach instead.

surely you can use your glasses for some impossible penetrations, coin through glass lens, ring on and off held spectacle arm for example.
you could also use your glasses as a wand for a strike vanish.

True, nice idea, but I would usually use a pen for that. I often carry one around with me.

I did think about ring to spectacle arm, but couldnt think of how to do it subtly. I have thought about doing it in a similar fashion to coin under watch, with a little misdirection, and just slipping it on.

Who knows, i'll give it a go.

Cheers all.

Some weird body tricks also get a good laugh :)
I use Fingerling by David Harkey from his awesome book AH-HA !
In the same book, use Airlock to unlock your car with your fingers, while your keys are locked inside ( which can be seen by spectator ) !
Just some impromptu miracles you can perform.. There are so many more!

Make some more money with magic and get laser surgery :P

Incidently Croz, what do you mean by Greg Wilson's key-ring routine?

His on the spot dvd.

Key taken off the ring,
Key is "massaged" back onto the ring,
Jumps back off,
lands back on it, is examined, and then is snapped back off.

Its a nice routine, and even though it takes a little practice, it's fairly powerful.

All the best,

Equivoque?

Isn't there something in Mitox where you toss some "random" stuff onto the table and predict which one they'll pick?
