Beginners tip 3: I CAN FINALY DO IT

Postby Famuus » Jun 10th, '09, 16:05

Hy

This is a little post for all those beginners (including me) who are on the verge of burning thier entire stack of decks down, just because there is a slieght they can't get to work.

I recentlie posted a topic here somewere wining about the fact that i have small hands. I was NOT able do the the famous 'pass' let alone the 'invisible pass'.
There were a few guys that said this could be a problem. But also a few that said that anything could be done with the correct amount of practise.

One mounth ago i started practasing the pass. It's actually a relativly simple thing but with my small hands it seemed impossible. The cards kept dropping to the ground, i kept swearing and i litterly trew a deck of bikes trough the window. (that really happend). As i live on the first floor of our house and the Belgian winds was in the way. I only found 20 or so cards back and they were all dirty. I was about to give up. But after watching some video's on the pass i really tought it looked cool. At some point i was thinking on mybe buying some smaller cards so i was able to do it.
After weeks of not letting go my deck of bicycle's. Just holding them, and trying to do the pass everywere i go. I finaly got it. I'm not yet superduper in doing it. But it's comming. I'm SO HAPPY

To be short;
If you are practasing something and you can't get it to work. If you are really getting frustrated. DON'T GIVE UP ON IT !!!!! PRactise practise practise. The feeeling you get when you're finaly able to do it RULES !!!!

I had real trouble with the pass for a long time: one time I was just toying with a few cards on the bus and I did it without thinking. The problem had been that I had been very tense when performing the move, you've just got to try and do it as loose as possible.

It's a knack thing, the pass, once you get it that's it.

I can do several types of pass, all pretty well(I think) and I've even invented my own!
My classic pass however, is pretty average, but I've never once been caught.

I'm not silly enough to use it as a control nor am I silly enough to make the pass when people are looking!

Thanks for the post Famuus. It's hearing things like this that encourages me to keep plugging away and well done!!

I've been trying to do the El***** Co*** for the last three weeks and am just starting to get it right some of the time. However, I haven't lost my temper yet hehe. I must be getting more patient in my old age. :D

I am not a great card man, and I make no claims for my pass. But I have found the secret to be to do it on an off-beat. When they are looking somewhere else I very casually do the pass. If the attention is any way on me I just have to wait my opportunity. I would love to have a perfect pass, but I would also love to speak French. And life is too short to put in the work.

Isn't the invisible pass a really good control?

Really Really good advice.

i didn't struggle much with the pass but it did take me lots of practise!

i used to practise the mechanics of the pass when i was sat around doing nothing and without any cards in my hands just to get a feel for it

and yeh its worked i can pass without being noticed while being watched doing my ACR and also the riffle pass which still needs a little practise but ive still shocked a few people with it!

Small Hands

Postby MasterSmiley » Jun 28th, '09, 19:01

Lol I know exactly how you feel about small hands. Recently I started relearning the Charlier cut and i couldn't do it because of finger size... it took me like 2 days of anytime i wasn't doing anything i had a deck in my hands to get it down. I have NO IDEA why i couldn't do it before.... but then again that's what practice does. Also I am also having trouble with the invisible pass or really any pass. I really cant do it convincingly enough i dont think...

How about an Erdnase colour change though? I can do it, but I have known people with small palms struggling to do it due their small hands not covering the card sufficiently.
