Postby loljacob2 » Jun 20th, '09, 23:06

hi I am thnking of buying Wayne houchins stigmata but was wondering if it uses the same method as al manns' trick where the red marks on your arm change. An answer would be greatly appreciated thanks!

I don't think it has any correlation to Al Mann's work but does toe in with some things shared by Banachek some years ago.

The method is actually far older if you are to consider the side show and evangelical road shows of the past, but as I've posted elsewhere, magicians like a neat gag rather than the opportunity to create miracles, which this can be if one is patient and calculating in how it is presented.

Thanks craig, you helped. I've heard some people insulting or bashing on Wayne about his effects and was wondering if one of the reasons is people think he copied this or more of his effects. I am not defending him I'm just curious about what people think/know he did wrong. Thanks

Don't be so suprised, most of what's released as a new effect can be found in some dusty old tome. Not much of what's new and revolutionary is anything even close to new or revolutionary.

hi, thanks for all the replies but I'm still wondering if either Wayne/ellusionist knew about these previous effects and if Wayne knew about them or read about them whilst creating these effects. Thanks again

If I'm not mistaken, even Control by Wayne Houchin ( the stopping the pulse one ) has a part of the effect appearing in Martin Gardners' Encyclopedia of Impromptu Magic.

To be fair to Wayne Houchin - Stigmata was based on the work of Banachek, and he credits him on the dvd, so proper crediting was given in that regard.

That's not to say Ellusionist hasn't overlooked other situations...

I've not looked at this in a while but I thought Steve made an appearance on the video

Yes, Banachek does support Wayne's contributions and knowing what I know of Mr. Houchin, I'm willing to bet that he's always on the up and up with whomever he either borrows or gains inspiration from; he just strikes me as a rather stand-up guy.
