Aaargh! You may recall awhile ago a post on here from a TV production company asking for applications for a new TV show - Britain's Biggest Brain or something. Well I applied. And today they phoned up, out of the blue, and asked all sorts of questions (I think the fact that I'm a "mind-reader" and a "psychic" made me sound suitably colourful), and then asked some brain teasers. I was totally unprepared, and know for a fact that I got one question wrong (what holds water but is full of holes? I went blank. It's a sponge), but passed and now have an audition in Manchester on Friday 17th in Manchester.

The actual show, should I get past the audition (don't hold your breath), is aired in late August.

Best get back on Brain Training again. Kids, Daddy needs the DS!

So I thought I'd give you all an update - I know how you've all been waiting with baited breath for news!

Well, I did the audition in which I seemed to be surrounded by people who audition for quiz shows on a regular basis. There was much talk about whether this audition would be more difficult than the Weakest Link audition etc. In the next room they were auditioning for the Apprentice, so I suggested that if our audition went pear shaped we could all sneak next door and try again. Nobody seemed to find this very funny.

The audition was just over an hour long and entailed talking to camera about yourself, followed by some of the toughest brain teasers and testers it has ever been my misfortune to come across. I think I did very badly.

But the good news is I got an email tonight telling me that I'm on the short list. Quite how, I'm not sure. I think they must have got me confused with someone else. Either that or they're planning on populating the show with a certain quota of "brains" who will go on to actually win the thing, and "freaks" who are there to add a bit of colour and tell amusing anecdotes. I may have just sneaked in as a "freak".

I've now had to fill in and send back a health questionnaire. If I actually get on the show I will let you all know as soon as I know. Like you care!
