In the ads Derren says he has been working on 4 events of misdirection, I see no evidence misdirection yet!

Derren plays lady luck again, taking an unsuspecting viewer on a heart-stopping journey as they watch him gamble £5,000 of their savings on the single spin of a roulette wheel. The lucky viewer won't even know it's their cash until Derren calls them.

Is anyone else thinking Jeremy Beadle, or is it just me?

If we ever all get together, I must tell the story about the time I met Jeremy Beadle... A truly really nice guy and immensely clever to boot. I asked him if he'd ever been punched by someone when he 'revealed' himself at the end of every stunt and he told me:

"No, no, no -what people don't realise is that relief is a much greater emotion than anger. When I appear, the subjects realise that their greatest fears haven't been realised after all... in many ways, I am the one person the really do want to see - even though they might not know it!"

It was a very, very long time ago (long before I seriously got into magic) but the philosophy stuck with me and, as I get older, makes more and more sense. Now, when you also factor in that Beadle had a big interest in magic... makes you wonder what sort of a psychological illusionist he would have been!

It's gone very quiet here.

Remember the sound of people stampeding backwards, Iain?

Now...the sound of silence.

What happened to all that eating of humble pie?

I thought we were told that Derren was going to explain in the last show why the others shows appeared to be a load of balls (no pun intended). Turns out they may have just been a load of balls (or concentric circles!) after all.

And what happened to ManchesterUnited or should I say detinUretsehcnaM?

Weird how that came to nothing?

I can't remember where, but I did originally hear there were going to be 6 events. Maybe there still will be, nearer christmas?

They have all been rubbish so far though

Derren used a one way force deck?

Postby s6w4 » Nov 9th, '09, 18:48

Did Derren use a one way force deck? If so, what was his presentation like? I don't remember him using one.

There are always whispers that it will be re-mastered and re-released on DVD but nothing ever seems to come of it.

A shame really as my copy has the audio slightly out of sync for the first hour or so which can make it even more challenging following the explanantions!!

I'd gladly pay for a spruced-up DVD release!

That's bad news about no more copies of Devils Picturebook (especially on DVD format) I can't imagine it'll be too long before there's a fresh batch available. I was very lucky indeed to have had my copy signed by the man himself when he meeted and greeted the fans outside the theatre after Evening of Wonders. Cool guy, and very hospitable......as I gather most celebs probably would have dived into a waiting car, and gotten as far away possible from the gig once it was over.

Did we ever conclude what the snowflake was about?

I assumed it was an indcation that one side of the screen was "frozen" but hey.

Nah. He originally had a video filmed i believe about 8 months previous over xmas time in either birmingham or london (I forget) with some children picking out random balls which turned out to be the lottery numbers that night - aka, he had children predict the numbers 8 months in advance as the "real" prediction.

It was xmas at the time, with the lights in the background, and it was (if I remember correctly from what I saw) snowing - hence the snowflake

He decided not to use it at the last minute on the televised version, though the live audience did get to see it - it was a good decision for him not to televise this footage in my opinion though
