Hi chaps,
I'm back briefly and have said episode on tape should it be required. Corinda will be fuming... (although I'm sure the method was way before him). As for the advertised DVD, it was for Derren's previous C4 stuff.

I don't think he had any choice about revealing the chess method as there is no doubt it would have been worked out, it's a pretty well known method. So better he explains it than let the papers expose him and think they are clever.

I'm feeling very pleased with myself - managed to tape it. ALL of it, not just the middle bits like I usually do, and even got the trailer for the next show - Sunday week? Anyways, the next episode is Friday 30th according to Sky Programme details.

The chess thing wasn't really up to his usual 'WOW' standard but was intriguing. The fact that Derren explained how he did it said a lot about this one. The bit with Stephen Fry was a good ol' card trick - the sort which Derren has left behind to concentrate on mentalism and I for one am glad he included it. It's an oldie but goodie and shows he's capable of going back to his basics and entertaining on many different levels by using his many different skills. (And gaffs!) The whole programme had a familiar feeling to it - not in the sense of having seen it before but being comfortable with the effects, having a better than average guess at how some were done, and just enjoying a professional entertainer doing his stuff. Nice to see the usual names involved, Andy Nyman, Anthony Owen and Andrew O'Connor - all signs of a good quality programme.

Marks out of ten? A decent 8 - just to leave something for the rest of the series to work for!

Yeah, 'twas good to see a card trick, but I almost wished that I didn't have DPB so that I could have experienced a bit more wonder at it, only almost though!

I thought a lot of the stuf were just like tricks... The fingers in the pocket were good, but not as good as all the arms going up in the shopping centre, or the way he messes with your head. I hope the shows in this series get better... I'll still be watchin though.

I loved it, woooohoooo etc.

It was nice to see the DP stuff and it was nice to hear him describe what he does at the start wasn't it.
True enough some of it wasn't as strong as usual but I think that was a director/producer fault rather than the effects.

Either way, can't wait for the next one :)

I think the chess routine was better than we are giving it credit for. I think Happy Toad is absolutely correct in that he had to explain it because it WOULD have been worked out. After all we all had it sussed before we had even seen it.

However I think we are missing the fact that he did actually beat the last (so called least expert player). Assuming that this wasn't a stooge or someone who was actually just rubbish at chess that in itself was quite a feat (also assuming DB isnt actually a chess master).

Just imagine if he had done this without the other 8 players...

I agree, also there was the prediction, in fact when the other chess players made a comment about how amazed they were etc. it was always ref. the prediction. Which incedently clearly indicates they knew the method he was employing for playing against them.

I was really looking for the switch but didn't see it, he did kinda grab at the prediction "to help" unfold it, but even there I couldn't see any exchange. Very well done I'd say.

Well I was just surprised that the masters didn't get it on the day, but I suppose with the right conditioning that wouldn't have been likely. And of course he had to say how it was done.
