can you borrow the items

Postby paniclikehell » Jan 23rd, '06, 13:22

Can you borrow the coins, pens and whatever items you use?
Please reply. Im a singaporean and intending to buy it from ellusionist. But unfortunately, it cost 40$ there. And converting sing dollars into US is pretty expensive. :( I saw your reviews, looks pretty good. especially the bending things. By the way, is that an illusion?

paniclikehell - I wouldn't recommend that you get it. Personally - I'm really glad I got it and I think it was worth every cent (I'm a South African and the currency conversion also hits me) - but if you're starting out in this kind of thing (based on your question) you'll be disappointed.

As for the bending being an illusion - the keys really get bent and you can see them bending. What you're doing is using the power of the mind - but what you understand by that and what I mean probably differ a bit  (That's my standard line if someone asks me that question, b.t.w.)

I always do card tricks, from a book my bro threw at me last time. since then, i have been making up my own fantastic tricks. But i just wanna go do some mentalism. For a change. Im getting tired of doing the same tricks over and over again. I read that the book is really small. There's another book by shaun fields called X-rated, can i see a review on that? Or you haven't got it yet. Is there any mentalism book/DVD you would recommend? Anyway, are some of the coin bending effects impromptu? Or a bit of preperation needed?

Thanks for ur help

If you just want to add some mentalism-type effects in to what you already do then i'd suggest maybe getting Self Working Mental magic by Karl Fulves. Jay Sankey also has a dvd out 22 blows to the head (or something like that) and there's another dvd where he plays the character of Borris Pocus - if you look around you'll find it.

If you want to get a bit more serious get hold of 13 steps to mentalism by Corinda, Practical mental effects by Anneman and Easy to master Mental miracles - Richard Osterlind (and forget what I wrote in the first paragraph). And then try and speak to some real-life mentalists as to where to go from there - I'm still in training

As for coin bending - I don't want to go into to too much detail - there's a number of threads that deal with it and if you search you will find. There's coin bending and then there's coin bending. The first kind is a great trick, the other - well you could start a cult with it..

Sounds too good to be true. How many in the book can be done walking around or impromptu?

Unfortunately, just looking through them, none of them seems to be impromptu. The closest one is Omni-bender, but you need the gimmick. If you really like the descriptions of the effects (personally, I'm obsessed with the concept of pent), you should still get it.

Currently Reading "House of Mystery" (Abbott, Teller), Tarbell, Everything I can on busking

Yeah, I broke down and ordered it. I've been trying to branch out from just cards. If 2 or 3 are usable I'll be psyched. The ice stuff set up or not seems too good to be true (but what if its not...oh :? ) The Pent trick I think you'll be let down by. I saw a demo of it (penguin I think) and I think it's pretty obvious even to lay persons. If your still interested I'll let you know what I think when I get it this week look it over and let it sink in.
