This film lost me when they had a screen filling close up of very modern david westernedge playing cards.( Leo decaprio wins his ticket with them)

Historical accuracy my *rse.

They had smoke coming out of the ship's fourth, non-functional funnel!

My wife loves this film. I do not. Every time Leonardo DiCaprio sinks beneath the icy waters of the North Atlantic I cheer inside.

And after watching the dancing, drinking and general "carrying on" in the 3rd Class dining hall, I for one applaud the locking of the gates to keep them away from the lifeboats. "Jeez and Begorrah! The upper class Englishmen are condemning us all to death, to be sure!"

Totally inaccurate of course. The 3rd Class deck had a gentlemen's smoking room and a ladies reading room. The playing of the fiddle, drinking of cider and demonstrations of public school educated ladies going "on point" would have been frowned upon by all. Where did they think they were? Tabula Mentis?

I actually found it a decent film once you get into it. Not worth all the hype though

While we're on the subject of Kubrick movies, how about...

A Clockwork Orange

What was all the hype about? Maybe I would have enjoyed it if it didn't have such an iconic reputation to live up to.

But, if I'm to be completely honest, the only Kubrick movies I really liked were Dr Strangelove and The Shining. I think I must have missed the point of all the rest.

So The passion of the Christ.

I want my 2 hours back. I mean seriously snuff films do it in a much more economic time same story.

I'll agree with Life Aquatic ug drivel...

Ghost Rider they let cage do what he wanted and cage is a HUGE elvis fan so he just ran around the movie pretending to be elvis the super biker.

Perl Harbor if you haven't heard the song by the south park boys about it look it up that sums up my feelings on the movie.

Clockwork was just a diabolical satyr on politics and popular media. I liked it but then again I do like the weird messing with your head movies.

Ghostbusters 2 was OK. I'd say due to the fact that it was rushed (due to the popularity of the Cartoon at the time) and it seemed with even a big budget they weren't able to do much with it. I mean come on. How do you go from a God of Destruction, to a Ghost Pirate in a painting. And yes the end was a bit silly. ALL OF NY decides to be nice to each other. :?

You know, the "airbase" used in Dr Strangelove was actually a car park, and factory on the slough trading estate. Ive walked past it many times as it's just around the corner from me.

And, its about 3 minutes from the building that they used as the office, in the office.

and a further 2 minutes, takes you to the site of 21st century productions, where all the thunderbirds, stingray, and Joe 90 was shot.
That's now a tire place.

Did you know that Kubrick used Docklands for the outdoor shots on Full Metal Jacket? Oh yes.

Has anyone ever noticed that he only ever uses three shots? Beautifully framed static shots, dolly (tracking) shots, and hand-held work (including Steadycam). Watch one of his films. It's very rare to find another shot type.

Speaking of which, Barry Linden is a very long, very boring film. It's shot beautifully - it would be, it's a Kubrick - but my god, it's dull.

A.I. confused the hell out of me. OK Kubrick started it but didn't finish it and it was a mish mash of various stories but it could have been so much better (and shorter!) with a bit more effiort.

I like A.I, But it feels like it should of been 2 films.
And the ending when his mummy dies, always makes me feel a bit sad.
incidently the extras on the dvd, are much better than the film it's self.

The bear was shot almost 100% in green screen, with live puppeteers.

I enjoyed A I but it should have ended half an hour sooner than it did.

Whatever happened to Hayley Joel Whatshisface?

Is he in rehab yet?
