Going in for the chop

Postby Robbie » Oct 24th, '09, 14:54

The chop or the snip. Whatever you want to call it, I'm off to hospital on Wednesday to say bye-bye to my gall bladder.

If all goes well, I could be back home the same night! (Though still not up to doing much of anything for a while.)

Statistically, there's a 5 per cent chance that they can't complete the job using keyhole surgery and will have to do it the old-fashioned way, which would be a more major operation and involve a lot longer recovery time. So here's hoping the odds are with us.

So I may not be around much from now till then, and probably not afterwards for a while, until I get enough energy to bother web-surfing again.

I've been threatening to learn the cups and balls so I can do something useful with the gallstones.

Yep... I'm amazed as to how "simple" the procedure is now days.

Mine hasn't worked for some time now but given all my other health issues the doc's figure that it's not a high enough priority to be concerned with just yet... I think that translates to meaning "You Haven't Suffered Enough with Related Complications"

Every one I spoke with about the procedure who've had it done however, said it wasn't a big deal and they were back home doing light work in their office within 5 hours of the surgery. So think positive thoughts and wear your ruby slippers so you can get back home safely, when it's time.

I haven't got any ruby slippers (aww), but I do have my cuddly gall bladder to take along for moral support:

Away early tomorrow morning, so I'll say bye-bye now.

After a week of recuperation at home, we've decided a holiday filled with extreme pampering should be just the thing, so we'll be at Bodelwyddan Castle in early November. Anyone in north Wales who might drop in?

Best of luck for the op, can heartily recommend Bodelwyddan Castle as it's 'Adults Only' which sounds filthy until peeps realise it just means no children :D !

That's one of the very best things about the Warners group. No children, no teenagers. In fact, I'm usually one of the youngest guests in the building!

Strange you should say that. Mrs.M and I have visted many of the Warner places and we always feel we're the youngest there. Last time at Bod we saw Paul Daniels and muggins here got picked for Electric Chairs. Wouldn't have missed it for the world :D !

...And here I am back already.

Sitting for half the day in a hospital gown in the waiting room, having had the anti-thrombosis jab (which stings!), and was told I was next on the list.

And then somebody got rushed in with a ruptured aortic aneurysm, took my slot, and I was sent home. Fair enough, I guess. Their need was certainly greater.

So I'll be re-listed, probably in a couple of weeks and quite possibly at short notice. In the meantime I've contacted all my editors and said I'm going to take the whole of November off. I certainly don't want to accept work and then not be able to do it.

As far as this week goes, instead of recuperating I suppose I'll work on my income tax.

Sorry to hear of the delay but it's a very common event these days. Any chance of being called in earlier if they get a last minute cancellation?
