Pete Firman & The Gilded Balloon Tour Inverness Feb 7th

WOW! What a show. Two comdedians AND Pete Firman as the headline act.

My wife (who hates magic) and I got some tickets to go and see Pete, who is an old friend of ours. That's why Siobhan agreed to go and she said as much without ambiguity.

15 minutes after Pete came on I looked over at my wife as she convulsed and took off her glasses to wipe away tears of laughter. Yup...THAT good.

45+ minutes was what he gave the Highland audience and every minute was appreciated. Sometimes crude (ish) but always funny, Pete's stage persona was maniacal yet restrained. His magic was not dissimilar to Tommy Cooper's performed by Eric Morcombe with ADD. He knew what a lot of audience members thought of magicians and used it to great effect. When you thought he would fool you, he was simply on his way to f**k with you head and make you howl. Cheap gags? Yup. Funny gags well place and imaculately timed? Yup. Pete manages to lead the knowledgable magician down the garden path of "Oh he's going to do the old...Nope... he just threw it away for a big laugh!"....BRAVO!

The magic he did do (as magic) was slick and tight. I knew one of the assistants he brought up on stage to help with his egg bag routine and she kept asking me how he did it because it was just too impossible!

The temptation to lift his gags is almost too strong... but resist I shall as Pete deserves ALL the credit!

Those of you in Scotland get to your local (or distant) venue to see him if you can!

If we can hit that bullseye then the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards... Checkmate!
