I loved the finale but I have to say the spirit cabinet had me a little freaked out by the climax  Loved the use of the music during the hypnosis selection... sorry I'm no classical buff but it's forever associated with Hannibal Lecter for me, adds to the feeling of disquiet! And the selection of a female trancee who would look like a Japanese horror movie as she shuffled out into the crowd? Cracking show!

Didnt like the spirt cabinet, not a fan of watching them. It also seemed like there was too much going on in the finale.

The engraved coin was the best part, if for the reaction of the woman alone. At first I thought the word dissociation thing was a bit bla... but it turned out to be a good presentation on a simple method, which is what Derren/Andy is best at. This was also evident in the pick a person routine.

Not as good as Something Wicked, but better than some of the recent T.V specials.

Now that we can talk about it... (spoilers for those who haven't seen it)

Maybe the editing helped but I found the word dissociation funny getting onto irritating. We all knew he knew the last word, did he have to go back to it again and again? (And did he have to end the first half with it?)

The medallion routine was my favourite. The spectator's reaction on the filmed show was the best he could have got - but I think everyone in that theatre was struggling to keep their eyes dry. Brilliantly emotional, and proves that it's all about the presentation and the method doesn't matter

The end is great. It's a little baffling because it moves so quickly but I love how it gets more and more impossible every time he hits you with yet another revelation. Brilliant

(Edit: I wasn't a fan of the cabinet routine, really. It just dragged on a bit and was very "But Derren, you tell us how this is bullsh*t and you're doing it yourself?". The rest of the stuff with the hypnotised girl was well presented, but I didn't like the idea of her drinking vinegar...)

Dont understand why he didnt tell the audience he worked the word Mcfly in to the opening voice over?

All in all, only 3 effects were missed out, which isn't bad all things considering!

I personally really like the spirit cabinet, though enjoyed it much more when I was there!

Love

Because in the theatre it's clearly obvious (that message was spoken a number of times before the show started and he did the "slip a word into a sentence" thing a couple of years ago), and McFly was also mentioned a number of times during the show

Oh, so it was a question of Derren knowing some of the audience would pick up on the fact he slipped 'Mcfly' in. So he didnt have to point it out.

I know I'm a right saddo but I've just finished editing out the adverts and find that the total running time including the credits and DVD advert at the end is 76 minutes.

I enjoyed it, the live version was better as there were more audience reactions and things were done somewhat more leisurely. I seem to recall that the side screens which featured at the end were more prominent on the two stage shows I saw but that might just be to do with camera angles.

In any event recorded live like that there will probably be a few things which don't come over as well as they could but, let's face it, it was a darned good show which showed how things should really be done. Roll on Svengali!!!

the comment above re the Vinagar drink had me giggling.
I have an effect in which a cup of real, hot tea, visibly changes into a cup of coffee. It uses a subtle bit of buseness that is close to the vinagar effect in many ways. :)

I'll buy the DVD just to see that pierced goth girl who comes up to test the vinegar

Now I'm not accusing him of using stooges, but he always seems to get a lot of attractive women on stage 'randomly' when the cameras are there ...

Oh I know it was all sneaky trickery, it's just the whole idea which makes me squirm :)
