Victorian Shock Machine!

Postby Farlsborough » Feb 18th, '10, 02:00

Am I allowed to post links to eBay? Probably not... mods, please delete the following link if it's inappropriate... this is not my sale by the way! Victorian Electric Shock Machine.

Thought this looked fascinating though I've no idea what it's actually for; some kind of therapy or parlour entertainment. Either way, I thought it might interest those on this forum with an interest in this kind of thing... there's surely a million routines you could use it for, whether or not it works.

I've seen loads of these from working in the antique trade. They were thought to improve the constitution, tone the skin, and cure everything from gout to piles in Victorian times.

That's quite a nice one as far as they go. We used to get about £40-60.00 each from collectors (early nineties prices). Usually the lead or copper plates have been eaten away from the sulphuric acid used to get it working or the glass accumulator case is cracked.

When working you held the metal tubes or touched them on your affected parts, while someone else rotated a little handle that alternated the current giving you a little tingle. Nice...

When I think of all the money I spent on Viagra and devices to improve my manhood... and all the time I could have just stuck my fingers into a power socket....
