I'd have to agree with Mark. Sometimes the further you distance yourself from other magicians, the better.

I found it immensely helpful to have a friend who was learning at the same time as me - it's always nice to have someone to spur you on, and to bounce ideas off of. A bit of healthy competition never hurt anyone either.

I'll second (or third) this motion. While not true in all cases, it can sometimes be a case of 'the blind leading the blind' :P
