best ungimmicked version of an effect

Thoughts on the best impromptu/ungimmicked version of an effect that usually requires a gimmick.

Harry Lorayne's Impromtu OOTW...borrowed shuffled deck...no sleights whatsoever!

hmm.
Quite a few put their faith in Peter Marucci's non gimmicked scotch and soda.
Recently people have been talking about the egg trick, one version doesnt use the gimmicked egg. ( though technicaly it still uses a gimmick... just not the one you think)

I guess non setup version of o.o.t.w has to be included, because technicaly a set up is a gimmick. ( And Harrys isnt the only one out there. )

there are some non gaff versions of rising cards too. Those that use the often forgotten Plunger method for example.

is a card in wallet a non gimmick effect, when the wallet is just a wallet?

I guess so.

electric chairs is a good one, though in fact Its the other way around.. this is a gimmickless effect, to which lazy magicians have applied a gimmick.

I think we're talking at cross-purposes, Dale; I don't mean the... erm... IS method.

Book test - you should be able to do this with ANY book at ANY time. Anyone who needs a "gimmicked book" really needs to stop and rethink!

With a memorized deck and some little sleights, you can perform an impromptu Invisible Desk. Works as much as the gimmicked version for me.
